(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning for one run, but ultimately dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Memphis Redbirds by a score of 7-6 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte, NC. The Knights went just 1-5 overall in the series against the Redbirds.

Charlotte shortstop Colson Montgomery launched his fifth home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. The home run was his second of the week. Montgomery, the number one prospect in the Chicago White Sox system as rated by Baseball America, finished the game 1-for-3 with the home run, one RBI and two walks.

Charlotte DH Zach DeLoach also chipped in with two hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

RHP Chad Kuhl started the game for the Knights and was sharp on the afternoon. Kuhl, who did not factor in the decision, allowed just two runs on six hits over six innings of work.

The Knights held a 5-3 lead through eight innings and reliever Justin Anderson came on in the ninth inning to close the game out. The Redbirds, however, battled back to score two runs in the ninth to force the game into extra innings. In the 10th, RHP Prelander Berroa (1-3, 9.45) gave up two unearned runs and was saddled with the loss.

The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game road series against the Gwinnett Stripers (Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves) on Tuesday morning from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA. The “Voice of the Charlotte Knights” Matt Swierad will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
