SKY SOX BEGIN HOMESTAND WITH 6-2 WIN OVER LAS VEGAS
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox opened their fifth homestand of the season with a 6-2 victory over the Las Vegas 51s Wednesday night at Security Service Field. Right-hander Corbin Burnes put together another solid performance, tossing six innings of two-run, seven-hit ball with six strikeouts. Jett Bandy and Brett Phillips highlighted the night with home runs for each to combine for three RBI. With the win, the Sky Sox gain a game in the standings and are now four back of first-place Oklahoma City in the American North.
The night's scoring got kick-started early for the Sky Sox in game one against the Las Vegas 51s. After Andrés Blanco and Keon Broxton started the frame with a single and walk respectively, Dylan Moore would ground into a double play to record the first two outs. With Blanco on third, Jett Bandy broke the game of zeroes with a two-run home run to give Colorado Springs a 2-0 advantage.
The following innings would go scoreless until the fifth when Brett Phillips added a solo home run, marking his fourth of the season, extending the lead to 3-0.
Las Vegas threatened the very next inning in the top of the sixth after plating two runs on four consecutive singles to make it a one-run ballgame, but the Sky Sox would swiftly answer back with three more runs in the bottom half. With the bases loaded and one out, Tyrone Taylor knocked a two-RBI single while Phillips following with another base hit to make it a 6-2 game and final score.
Sky Sox relievers Mike Zagurski and Erik Davis combined for three innings of one-hit shutout ball while striking out two and three batters respectively.
The Sky Sox complete the four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats tomorrow with an 8:05 p.m. MT scheduled first pitch. For all information on Sky Sox, follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and visit the team's website at www.skysox.com.

Tomorrow's Preview: In the second game of the three-game series against the Las Vegas 51s at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs on Thursday, the Sky Sox are sending righty Corbin Burnes to the mound to face a yet-to-be-determined opponent for Las Vegas.
Phillips Goes Deep, Again: Outfielder Brett Phillips knocked his fourth home run of the 2018 season and his second in three nights (first of June). Phillips first home run didn't come until May 23 when on the road in Nashville. In 2017, the Florida native knocked 19 homers throughout the season.
Burnes' 13th: Corbin Burnes put together another strong performance in his 13th start of the campaign Wednesday night at Security Service Field. It marked the longest start for the right-hander in Colorado Springs and his fifth start lasting at least six innings. It was also the first time he allowed less than three earned runs since May 17 against Memphis at home.
Taylor Leadin' The Way: Tyrone Taylor's outfield assist in Wednesday night's game against Las Vegas marked his 10th of the season, which puts him in a tie for first with Memphis outfielder Adolis García.
Nottingham's Quartet: Jacob Nottingham marked a season-high in strikeouts in a game Wednesday with four total. His previous high this season was three, which he met two times (May 1 vs. Nashville, June 6 @ Fresno).
Martin's Third Road Start: Las Vegas starter Cody Martin made his third road start with the 51s on Wednesday night. In the outing, he allowed three earned runs, the most he's allowed on the road with Las Vegas this season. In his first road start on May 21 in Sacramento versus the River Cats, he did not allow a run and only gave up a solo hit in four innings of work. In his second road start in Reno, he gave up just one earned run on five hits through five frames.
Orf Continues to Climb: The fourth inning double was his 291st regular season hit, tying him with Chris Frey for 21st on the Sky Sox career hits list. [Next up in 20th: Jayson Nix with 298 hits.] It was Orf's 62nd regular season double, passing Beau Allred for 21st place all time. (Next up in 20th: Sean Barker with 63 doubles.) The three walks on the night gave him 112 regular season walks, passing Jeff Manto for 16th all-time in this category. (Next in 15th: Pedro Castellano with 113 walks.)
History With Vegas: Las Vegas is just one of two PCL cities (Tacoma being the other) that have been in the Pacific Coast League for all 31 years of the Sky Sox Triple-A affiliation (1988-present).
Multi-Night: It was a multi-night for multiple Sky Sox on Wednesday night in game one against the Las Vegas 51s. Both Brett Phillips (2) and Jett Bandy (3) collected multi-hits on the night while both of them including Tyrone Taylor all had two-RBI nights as well.
This Week's Preview: The Sky Sox are in the midst of a seven-game homestand at Security Service Field with a three-game set against the Las Vegas 51s before welcoming the Salt Lake Bees to town on Saturday for a four-game series.
