SKY SOX DEFEAT BABY CAKES 5-1 SATURDAY NIGHT
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox defeated the New Orleans Baby Cakes 5-1 Saturday night at Security Service Field. Sky Sox starter Adrian Houser set the tone for the home team with four shutout innings of three-hit ball while striking out three.
The Sky Sox got off to a hot start on a warm night at Security Service Field. In the bottom half of the first frame, the home squad took a quick 3-0 lead. Brett Phillips led off with a stretched double as Orlando Arcia drew a walk behind him. Tyrone Taylor followed with a double to left-centerfield to clear the bases and advanced to third on a throwing error to the plate. Domingo Santana brought in the third run of the frame on a sacrifice fly ball to left field.
In the third, after the Baby Cakes stranded the bases loaded in the top half, the Sky Sox produced a solo run in the bottom half with extend their lead to 4-0.
In the sixth, the Baby Cakes struck with their first run of the contest after Magneuris Sierra led off with a double and was brought around on a single by Eric Campbell. New Orleans eventually loaded the bases on two more consecutive singles with no outs, but reliever Nick Ramirez was able to shut down the next three batters without any additional damage.
The Sky Sox scored a final run to make it a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh on Jett Bandy's two-out groundball single to plate Arcia who walked for a third time on the night to start the frame.
The Sky Sox head into the final game against the New Orleans Baby Cakes tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. After tomorrow's matinee, the league will begin a three-day All-Star Break, and then the Sky Sox will hit the road for four more games against the Baby Cakes in New Orleans. Tomorrow's Preview: In the final game of Colorado Springs' homestand and five-game set versus the New Orleans Baby Cakes, the Sky Sox are sending righty Bubba Derby to the mound to square off against New Orleans' southpaw Jarlin García. Derby is looking for his fifth win of the 2018 campaign while Garcia is seeking his first of the season.
Houser Holdin Down the Fort: In his fifth start with the Sky Sox, righty Adrian Houser tossed four shutout frames and allowed just three hits while striking out three with no walks. It marked his first shutout performance with Colorado Springs and second no-walk performance.
Taylor is Fire: Outfielder Tyrone Taylor has been a sight to watch as of late. In his last four games combined, 9-for-16 with six runs, a double, two triples, two home runs, and nine RBI.  
BB-BB-BB: Orlando Arcia drew three free passes on Saturday night and finished the night going 1-for-2 with two runs. In 2016 with the Sky Sox, Arcia only drew two multi-walk games (2 walks per) in 100 games.
Number 11: In 22 total series before the All-Star break, the Sky Sox finish with 11 series wins following the game four win Saturday night with six series losses and five series ties.
First For Brady: Reliever Michael Brady notched his first save of the year with two-and-two-thirds innings of two-hit shutout ball to close out game four of the series.
Orf Optioned: On Saturday, Nate Orf was optioned by the Brewers and right-handed pitcher Jorge López was recalled as additional arm support. On Wednesday, infielder Nate Orf recorded his first big league hit in memorable fashion against the Twins, belting a solo home run into the left field corner. Teammates Jesús Aguilar and Manny Piña lifted Orf onto their shoulders and up the dugout steps and raised him in front of a sea of 36,700 fans celebrating the occasion. Orf recalled in place for infielder Nick Franklin who was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Orf, a native of Wentzville, MO, was originally signed by Milwaukee as a non-drafted free agent on June 14, 2013 out of Baylor University.
Error Assists: Baby Cakes catcher Austin Nola supported the Sky Sox cause with two errors on the night - tying the most errors by an opponent (individual) when playing the Sky Sox. The last time an individual made two errors in a game against Colorado Springs came on May 24 at Nashville (B. Taylor).
Catcher's Interference:  The catcher's interference against Austin Nola during Dylan Moore's at bat in the bottom of the 7th inning marks the second time this season that a Sky Sox player was awarded first on catcher's interference. (On June 7th in Fresno, Andrés Blanco was awarded first base on catcher's interference, charged against Fresno's Eduardo de Oleo. That was the first time since August 30th, 2013 to be awarded first base in catcher's interference in a road game). The last time a Sky Sox was awarded first base on catcher's interference in a home game was Shane Peterson on April 14th, 2015 when Tomás Telis, then with Round Rock, was charged with catcher's interference. 
Nottingham Reaches 10: On Friday, in game one of the doubleheader, Jacob Nottingham knocked his 10th home run with the Sky Sox, tying the most home runs he has totaled with one team. The last time he had 10 home runs with a team was during 2015 with Quad Cities. In that same season, the catcher combined for 17 home runs over three teams (Quad Cities, Lancaster, Stockton).
Three-Hit Win: In game one of Friday's doubleheader, the Sky Sox were victorious over the Baby Cakes 2-1 and did so on just three hits - Jacob Nottingham (solo HR), Dylan Moore (2B), and Domingo Santana (1B). The three hits tied a season-low for the Sky Sox, which they set on May 31 against Iowa at Security Service Field.
Brooks CG: Despite only going five innings in the game, Aaron Brooks officially marked the third complete game for the Sky Sox in the Brewers era. It marked the first complete game by a pitcher this season for the Sky Sox. Last season, Angel Ventura notched the one and only complete game last season.
All-Star Caliber: Colorado Springs' players participating in the 31st Triple-A mid-summer classic on Wednesday, July 11 are catcher Christian Bethancourt and infielder Nate Orf. Bethancourt, in his first season with the Brewers organization since signing as a free agent on January 8, 2018, was elected and will be representing Colorado Springs as the Pacific Coast League starting catcher. Orf, in his fifth full season with Milwaukee after signing as a non-drafted free agent on June 14, 2013 out of Baylor University, was selected and will be representing the Sky Sox as an All-Star reserve infielder. It marks the Missouri native's first career selection as a mid-season All-Star.
This Week's Preview: The Sky Sox complete the five-game set tomorrow against the New Orleans Baby Cakes in the before going on the three-day All-Star Break July 9-11. After the break, the team will hit the road for four more games against the Baby cakes in New Orleans.
