SKY SOX SWEPT BY SOUNDS AFTER FALLING 9-7 IN EXTRAS
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Sky Sox were swept for the first time this season by the Nashville Sounds, falling by a score of 9-7 in the 10th inning on Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field. With another win for the Sounds, they extend their win streak to 13 games.  
The day's scoring got underway in the third inning with Nashville striking first with four runs. After Bruce Maxwell led the inning off with a single and Melvin Mercedes and Boog Powell walked to load the bases, Dustin Fowler followed with a one-out double to plate the first two runs. The next two were brought in on a single by Anthony García and Sheldon Neuse sacrifice fly ball to give the Sounds a 4-0 advantage.
In the bottom half of the third, the Sky Sox manufactured a run on two outs to cut the score to 4-1. After a strikeout and groundout to start the frame, Keon Broxton slugged his 15th Sky Sox double and Tyler Saladino walked behind him. Following a successful double-steal, Christian Bethancourt grounded a ball just in reach of an outstretched Jorge Mateo at shortstop for a base hit, plating Broxton.
Colorado Springs continued the overdue offensive momentum into the bottom of the fourth. Tyrone Taylor got things going with a single and advanced to second on a balk. Following Domingo Santana's strikeout, Rymer Liriano knocked a base hit up the middle, plating Taylor and advancing into scoring position on the throw home. Dylan Moore clutched up in the next at-bat and sent a two-run home run over the left field wall to tie the game at 4-4.
In the top of the sixth, Nashville put the go-ahead run across the break the tie produced on two, two-out singles to give the Sounds the 5-4 lead. But the Sky Sox threatened in the bottom half after putting the first two batters on base with no outs. However, Moore grounded right at the third base bag, which resulted in a five-four-three triple play to end the inning.
Keon Broxton sparked life in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out double to centerfield. Then, with two outs, Christian Bethancourt snuck a grounder up the middle to tie the game at 5-5. Following two consecutive singles to load the bases, Santana hit a soft groundball to third to plate the go-ahead run and earn a base hit to give the Sky Sox the first lead in the series at 6-5.
In the top of the ninth, three outs away from a victory, Fowler led off and reached on a fielding error, representing the tying run. After two consecutive outs, back-to-back singles by BJ Boyd and Jorge Mateo tied the game at 6-6.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Taylor tripled and was 90 feet from walking the game off, but a Santana strikeout ended the threat, sending the Sky Sox into their 10th extra-inning game of the year.
Nashville extended to a three-run lead in the top of the 10th on three consecutive two-out hits. In the bottom half, Colorado Springs manufactured a single run but was unable to make the comeback, falling to the Sounds 9-7.

Tuesday's Preview: The Sky Sox head into the first game of the three-game set against Iowa Cubs, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, with first pitch scheduled for 6:08 p.m. MST. Colorado Springs' righty Brandon Woodruff (3-2) is set to face the Cubs' righty Jen-Ho Tseng (2-12).
Early Scoring: Nashville has held the easy advantage in early scoring in this series so far. Over the four games, the Sounds have outscored the Sky Sox by a total of 15-6 in the first three innings.
Three Outs, One Play: The Nashville Sounds completed the first Triple Play in the PCL this season. In the bottom of the sixth with two on and no outs, Dylan Moore grounded right at the third base bag, which resulted in a five-four-three triple play to end the inning. It marked the seventh triple play against the Sky Sox, last happening on July 20, 2015 at home also against Nashville. In the 8th inning that game, with Jason Rogers at second and Matt Clark at first, and both running on the pitch, Matt Dominguez for the Sky Sox lined out to Nashville center fielder Craig Gentry on a diving catch for the first out. Gentry threw to second baseman Joey Wendle to get Rogers for the second out, then Wendle threw to first baseman Anthony Aliotti at first base to complete the triple play.  Nashville won that game, 10-5.
Double That: The Sky Sox 16 hits total more than doubled their amount over the last two games against Nashville at home. It marks the most in a game during the series. In game one, the Sky Sox collected 10 hits.
Swept: The Sky Sox were swept for the first time this season by the Nashville Sounds. The Sky Sox now total one sweep against an opponent and one sweep by an opponent with 11 series wins, nine series losses, and 10 series ties.
Extras: The Sky Sox played their 10th extra-inning game of the season, falling in their fourth straight. Colorado Springs is now 2-8 in extra-inning contests in 2018. The team is now 0-6 at home in extra innings. Last year was the first time the Sky Sox had lost four at home in extra innings (2-4). The last time the Sky Sox lost eight games in extra innings was in 2003 (1-3 at home, 3-6 on the road).
Leading Into the Ninth: The Sky Sox marked their third defeat when leading in a game after eight innings. The squad is now 47-3 when losing the lead after eight innings.
Swipin' Bags: The 142 Sky Sox stolen bases this season is currently the fourth most in a single season. The team record is 169 stolen bases, which was set in 2009. The next feat to reach is third-most 149 set in 2000 while the second-most 151 is held by 2016 squad.  
Red Hot: The Sky Sox could not end the red-hot Nashville Sounds, dropping the fourth straight game of a four-game set with a 9-7 score in extra innings. The Sounds collected their 13th win in a row. The last time the Sounds lost was last month, on July 28th.
Sweet Tally: With another loss, manager Rick Sweet's win count stays at 269 total (regular season) with the Sky Sox. Sweet trails Brad Mills by only two wins to tie Mills' club record 271 wins as Sky Sox manager. If you include postseason wins, Sweet is at 271 overall wins, trailing Mills by only five overall wins.
The Hunt For First: The Sky Sox continue the hunt for their second-consecutive playoff run, battling it out with other top contender of the American North - the Oklahoma City Dodgers. Last season, the Sky Sox broke one of the longest postseason droughts in professional sports - taking the American North division for the first time and breaking their 20-year absence. Currently, the Sky Sox trail the Dodgers in the standings.
'Pen holding it down: After three runs allowed by starter Paolo Espino through five frames, relievers Bubba Derby and Mike Zagurski held off any additional scoring. Derby tossed three, two-hit frames while Zagurski tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.
Orf Alert: With his hit-by-pitch on Saturday night, Orf marked his 33rd total in his Sky Sox career. He is two away from tying Mark Strittmatter at 35. The all-time leader is Clint Barmes (47).
Quality from Brooks: Aaron Brooks dominated once again in his 13th start with the Sky Sox on Friday night against Nashville. In seven innings, he delivered seven solid frames while allowing just three runs on nine hits and recorded a season-high eight strikeouts on the night. It marked his second consecutive quality start and third overall this season with the Sky Sox.
Five or Less: The Sky Sox were held to five or less hits for the 23rd time this season. It marked the eighth time in 2018 where the Sky Sox were held to four hits exactly.
Taylor's 15th: Tyrone Taylor knocked his 15th home run of the season in the second inning of Friday night's game with the Sounds. Taylor is just three home runs away from doubling his previous high in the category, which was nine, set in 2016 while with Biloxi.
Another Multi: Christian Bethancourt recorded his 27th multi-hit game. In his last nine games, the catcher has recorded four multi-hit instances.
Heavy Damage:  The 18 runs the Sky Sox surrendered on Thursday night marked the most runs they've given up in a game all season. The previous high of 17 runs also came at home in Security Service Field, on 6/19 against the Salt Lake Bees.
Lengthy Evening: The three-hour and 55-minute contest on Thursday night was the longest game the Sky Sox have played all season, unseating the previous long of three-hours and 53-minutes, which came less than a month ago on the road in New Orleans against the Baby Cakes on 7/14. The 3:55 time for the 18-9 game marks the longest nine-inning Sky Sox game (time) against the Nashville Sounds. The previous longest nine-inning game in time between the Sky Sox and Nashville was at 3:47, taking place on April 10th, 2015, where Nashville won that game, 12-8.
Power Trio: The Sky Sox powered three home runs in the final game of the series in Tacoma on Tuesday courtesy of Jett Bandy, Keon Broxton and Domingo Santana, who were also the five-six-seven batters in the matinee contest. The home run for Broxton marked his first since being back with the Sky Sox (last was on June 25 vs. MEM). For Bandy, it marked his eighth of the season with the Sky Sox and Santana's fourth.
Asher's 12th: Right-handed starter Alec Asher, who went one over the minimum through his first three frames of work on Tuesday, notched his sixth win and completed his 12th start with the Sky Sox after a solid six innings of work while allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and, for the first time in an outing, no strikeouts.
Davies Rehab: Right-handed pitcher and Brewers rehabber Zach Davies made his fourth rehab stint for the Sky Sox Monday night, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing just the one run on five hits with a pair of walks alongside a pair of strikeouts. In his last rehab start, on Wednesday, August 1st, Davies threw two and two-thirds innings and allowing five runs on just four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Overall, after four rehab starts with Colorado Springs, he has totaled 13.1 IP, 15 H, 8 ER, 7 BB, 11 K and is 0-2.
