The Columbus Clippers split a doubleheader Thursday at home against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, winning the first game 9-6 before dropping the nightcap 10-2.
In Game 1, Columbus broke things open with a five-run 4th inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Juan Brito. Brito and Jhonkensy Noel each drove in three runs to help the Clippers snap a six-game losing streak. Reliever Randy Labaut (2-4) picked up the win after tossing 3.0 scoreless, one-hit innings.
The Clippers could not maintain the offensive production in the second game of the evening. Noel and Micah Pries each hit run-scoring singles in the 1st inning, but it wouldn’t be nearly enough to keep up with Lehigh Valley’s 10-run, 14-hit performance. Starter Tyler Beede fell to 0-2, allowing eight runs in 3.0 innings of work.
The Clippers and IronPigs will be back at it Friday Night at Huntington Park on Star Wars Night. The first pitch is at 7:05pm. It’s also the first fireworks night of the 2024 season. Tickets are available at ClippersBaseball.com.
