CC drops third in a row

MIDLAND - Shawn Haviland tossed seven sterling innings and Tucker Healy allowed one base runner over the final two frames as Midland blanked Corpus Christi 2-0 Wednesday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

Haviland (3-4) held the Hooks to six singles and two walks, striking out four. The Harvard graduate threw 63 of 96 pitches for strikes.

Healy fanned three to nail down the Hounds' second win of the series.

Corpus Christi (29-29) has scored four runs on two extra-base hits over the last three games.

Carlos Perdomo, making his first start for the Hooks, went 2-for-3 with a walk. Tyler Heineman also notched two knocks and was plunked by an 0-2 pitch from Haviland in the second.

David Rollins kept Midland (31-27) off the board through the first three innings. Consecutive singles by Max Muncy, Josh Whitaker and Kent Matthes opened the fourth to load the bases. Rollins bounced back to strikeout Anthony Aliotti and Dusty Coleman. Miles Head jumped on the first pitch and sent a line drive into left field, scoring two runs. Rollins (0-2) then fanned Blake Forsythe to end the inning.

Richard Rodriguez tossed two shutout and struck out four in his Double-A debut. Tyson Perez and Michael Dimock each added a scoreless inning for the Hooks.

Corpus Christi sends Mike Hauschild (1-0, 2.05) to the hill in Game 3. Nate Long (5-1, 3.00) goes for Midland Thursday night. First pitch is 7:00.
