A pair of Dominican Summer League pitchers were suspended on Friday after testing positive for performance-enhancing substance, according to the Office of the Commissioner of Baseball.
St. Louis Cardinals Minor League pitcher Kener Perez, who is currently on their Dominican Summer League roster, received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for Minor League players assigned outside of the United States and Canada.
Perez, a 19-year-old righty who signed out of Colombia, was 1-4 with an 8.31 ERA in seven appearances out of the DSL Cardinals' bullpen this season. He struck out 12 in 13 innings. Perez signed with St. Louis in February 2023.
Pitcher Ibrahyn Jimenez, who is currently with the DSL Padres Gold, also received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for Minor League players assigned outside of the United States and Canada.
Jimenez, 17, appeared in seven games for the DSL Padres Gold, making four starts. The lefty from Colombia was 1-1 with s 3.60 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 25 innings. He signed with San Diego in January.
Free agent Minor League pitcher Yonathan Frias, who was released by the Braves earlier this week, received a 56-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for Minor League players assigned outside of the United States and Canada. Frias had appeared in six games this season with the DSL Braves.
