Originally from Chicago, Patrick Kinas is entering his 13th season as the broadcaster for the Durham Bulls, following stops in Clinton (A-Midwest League), Kane County (A-Midwest League) and Carolina (AA-Southern League).
On the national broadcast scene, Kinas works for several networks, including NBC Sports and ESPN, and Compass Radio Networks and Westwood One on national radio. Kinas has called three Olympic Games, including the 2021 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo for NBC, and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Games for Westwood One. With ESPN, Kinas has called the men’s and women’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships the last two years, along with the SEC S&D Championships for the last three. Last June, Kinas broadcast his first Special Olympics World Games calling swimming for ESPN in Berlin, Germany.
For NBC, Kinas led its coverage of short track and long track speed skating for three years and called Wave I of the US Olympic Trials in swimming in 2021. For Westwood One and Compass, Kinas is part of their national college football and basketball broadcast packages, including coverage of the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. Kinas also currently calls the World Cup Short Track and Long Track Speed Skating circuit and World Championships for the International Skating Union (ISU). Locally, Kinas also has called the NC high school state football and basketball championships for 15 years for the NCHSAA.
Kinas graduated from Millikin University, then received his Master’s from Northwestern University. Kinas and his wife Kathryn live in Chapel Hill, with their adorable two-year-old son Kade, two dogs Gracie and Jeanie and cat Duncan.
