Diamond Paves The Way; Durham Beats Iron Pigs, 3-1
Allentown, PA --- Scott Diamond worked seven efficient innings to lead Durham past Lehigh Valley 3-1 on Tuesday night at Coca Cola Park.
Diamond (W, 2-0) worked seven full innings for the first time in four starts, limiting the Iron Pigs (5-15) to just a sixth inning run en route to his second straight victory.
Durham (11-9), which moved two games over .500 for the first time this season, took a 1-0 lead in the second on a bases loaded single by Leonardo Reginatto. Corey Brown launched his second homer of 2015 to start the fourth against Paul Clemens (L, 0-2).
After the Iron Pigs scratched a run across in the sixth, Taylor Motter began the seventh with a double. One out later, Motter stole third base and scored as the throw got past third baseman Maikel Franco to give Durham a 3-1 lead.
Jhan Marinez worked a perfect eighth with two strikeouts before turning over the game to closer Ronald Belisario. After two quick outs, Belisario walked one and allowed a single plus a wild pitch, to put the tying runs in scoring position. Pinch-hitter Cord Phelps flied out to centerfield to end the game.
Motter swiped three bases for the Bulls, with Hak-Ju Lee stealing two.
Diamond permitted six hits over seven innings, fanning four while walking none.
The series continues Wednesday night at 7:05 PM ET with Andrew Bellatti (0-0, 2.38) opposing Lehigh Valley's Joely Rodrigues (0-1, 5.68).
