The Rookie League Foundation of Oklahoma was formed in 2015 as a not-for-profit corporation. The mission of the Rookie League Foundation of Oklahoma is to impact the lives of families in the state of Oklahoma, provide educational opportunities for our youth, and support the first responders of our state, through charitable contributions and programming initiatives.
Throughout the season, the Foundation hosted workshops to teach area nonprofits how to use the ballpark as a resource. Through those events, the Foundation was able to provide tickets, in-kind goods, meeting space, and other assistance to support 150 nonprofits such as Citizens Caring for Children, military, and veteran agencies, as well as OKC Public Schools and Millwood School District.
In February, the Foundation hosted Stepping Up to the Plate, an event to celebrate the kick-off of Year Five of the OKC Comets Rookie League. Legendary University of Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso, 7-time Women’s College World Series champion and 15-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, delivered the keynote speech. Major League Baseball’s VP of Baseball & Softball Development, David James, also spoke at the event.
The Rookie League Foundation of Oklahoma 50/50 raffle continued to grow in 2023, generating over $60,000 – a 60% increase from 2022. To participate in the 50/50 raffle, fans purchase tickets during each home game. One lucky winner is drawn during each game, winning half of the money raised, while the other half benefits the Foundation.
The Foundation hosts online and in-park auctions throughout the season to raise funds for our Rookie League program and other youth sports initiatives. This year, our most successful auction was the Marvel jersey auction.
The Foundation also hosts an annual golf tournament. In 2023, the OKC Comets Open took place at TopGolf for the second consecutive year. Teams included representatives from OKC Comets corporate sponsors, fans, and staff. Proceeds will help fund the OKC Comets Rookie League.
