The SeaWolves notched their second comeback victory of the week as they took down the Bowie Baysox 6-5 on Saturday night at Prince George’s Stadium.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Bowie starter Grayson Rodriguez. Yariel Gonzalez led off the game with a walk and Drew Ward followed with his 12th home run of the season for a 2-0 lead.
SeaWolves starter Jesus Rodriguez retired the first seven batters he faced before giving up a one-out walk in the third to Cadyn Grenier. Terrin Vavra singled home Grenier with two outs to make it a 2-1 game.
The Baysox would then take the lead in the fourth. Jordan Westburg led off and reached on an error. Kyle Stowers followed with a base hit and Andrew Daschbach walked to load the bases. Johnny Rizer connected on a one-out grand slam, giving Bowie a 5-2 lead.
Erie began to chip away at the deficit in the sixth against reliever Claudio Custodio. Josh Lester led off the sixth with a walk and moved to third on a Kerry Carpenter double. Andrew Navigato singled home Lester with one out making it 5-3.
The ‘Wolves closed the gap to a run in the seventh when Custodio surrendered three straight one out hits to Gonzalez, Ward and Lester. The RBI knock for Lester increased his team-lead to 60 RBIs.
Dane Myers, who had a pair of hits for the second straight game, walked with one out in the eighth and moved to third on an Eric De La Rosa single. Chris Proctor lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Myers.
Erie regained the lead in the top of the ninth when Lester crushed an opposite-field solo home run for a 6-5 lead. The home run for Lester was his 24th.
Joe Navilhon (3-3) earned the win for Erie. He tossed 2.2 hitless innings allowing a walk with four strikeouts. Navilhon worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a pair of strikeouts, preserving the win. The righty has not allowed a run in 11 innings over eight outings in August.
