The Erie SeaWolves had another dominant offensive showing against the Altoona Curve on Friday night at UPMC Park. Erie scored in six different innings, including the final five frames on route to a 9-3 win. Riley Greene continued to torment the Altoona pitching staff, as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with a two-run home run and three runs scored.
For the sixth straight game, Erie scored in the first inning. Greene opened the day for Erie with a seeing-eye single, and Ryan Kreidler doubled him home. Kreidler scored another run for the ‘Wolves on an error by third baseman Josh Bissonette. After Altoona had briefly tied the game, John Valente put Erie ahead with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Erie scored the first three runs against Trey McGough (3-3), knocking him out of the game after just four innings. Erie added on in each of the next three innings against reliever Brad Case. Riley Greene set the table in the fifth with his 15th home run of the year, a two-run shot. Including a home run in each game of the doubleheader on Thursday, Greene has homered in three consecutive games for Erie, and is the first player to do so since Grayson Greiner in 2017. Brady Policelli drove in a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly, and Spencer Torkelson grounded out in the seventh inning to plate one more.
In the eighth inning, Brady Policelli capped the consistent scoring with a two-run home run to left field off of Nathan Kirby.
Beau Brisky got the start for Erie, but could not replicate the seven shutout innings of his last outing. Altoona plated single runs in the third and fourth innings. Ji-hwan Bae hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the first run, and Cal Mitchell doubled in the fourth inning to tie the game at two.
Only able to reach four innings, Brieske was relieved by Chavez Fernander. After just six pitches from Fernander, the game was paused for heavy rains, but the delay only lasted 36 minutes. Fernander returned to the mound after the delay, and eventually stranded the bases loaded for a scoreless frame.
Erie turned to Chance Kirby for the next three innings, and he delivered two scoreless frames before giving up a leadoff double and a run in the eighth. Kirby (4-2) earned the win while Gerson Moreno retired the final four batters of the game.
Erie and Altoona continue the set on Saturday at UPMC Park. A very special game, the SeaWolves will host Hawaiian Night, and the team will wear Hawaiian shirt pattern jerseys which will be auctioned via the Live Source app to benefit the Chace Numata Scholarship. Bidding on the jerseys is currently live, and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
