Meyers Leads Erie Hit Parade Blowout Win

Altoona took a first-inning lead when Seth Beer connected on a two-run home run against Erie starter Austin Bergner.

Chris Meyers cut the deficit in half when he began the second inning with a solo home run against Altoona starter Thomas Harrington.

Brady Allen led off Erie’s fifth inning with a double. A walk and an error by Beer loaded the bases with one out. Jake Holton tied the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly. Meyers followed with an RBI single to make it 3-2 Erie. Ben Malgeri crushed a three-run home run to make it 6-2 on a five-run frame.

Erie added three in the eighth inning. After Gage Workman tripled as part of a three-hit day, Eliezer Alfonzo scored him on a single. Hao-Yu Lee added a sacrifice fly later in the frame. Trei Cruz then had an RBI single to make it 9-2.

Workman had an RBI double in the ninth to make it 10-2. Carlos Mendoza hit a sacrifice fly to make it 11-2.

After Bergner allowed two runs over four frames, three Erie relievers combined for five scoreless innings. Calvin Coker had two perfect frames. Trevin Michael and Tim Naughton also turned in scoreless outings.

Coker (2-2) earned the win. Harrington (0-1) took the loss.

Erie’s offense tied a season-high with 17 hits. Meyers had four hits and fell a triple shy of the cycle.
