Peña Tosses Quality Start but Erie Bats Blanked in Loss

Despite a quality start by Carlos Peña, the SeaWolves (26-21) were shut out by Richmond (24-25) for the second time this week in a 2-0 loss.

Richmond scored the only runs of the game in the third inning. Adrián Sugastey began the frame with a double. Dilan Rosario followed with an RBI triple. He then scored on Carter Howell’s bloop single.

Erie had a runner in scoring position in each of the first four innings against Richmond starter Matt Frisbee. The SeaWolves went 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.

Richmond reliever Evan Gates relieved Frisbee with two out in the fifth. After walking the first batter he faced, he retired the next 10 Erie batters consecutively to finish 3.1 hitless frames.

Peña went a season-long six frames. He allowed two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out a season-high six batters.

Gates (2-1) earned the win. Peña (0-2) took the loss. Tyler Myrick picked up his fourth save.
