The Fredericksburg Nationals, alongside Red Door Pro Wash, want to team up with local schools to help promote reading through Books & Baseball. It's an easy, four-step program that rewards its participants with a FREE ticket to a FredNats baseball game and on-field recognition before the game.
Schools have the option to select a gym/cafeteria rally for large groups, in-class book reading for individual classes or a video presentation to show without an in-person visit. Space is limited in the program and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Fredericksburg Nationals are challenging students to come up with their best design for the 2024 Books & Baseball Reading Program bookmarks! FredNats staff members will decide the winner, with the winner receiving a prize pack PLUS their design featured on more than 20,000 bookmarks distributed throughout the region.
Submissions must be received by Friday, December 1st at 5pm. Please remember to stay inside the box as we cannot accept any submissions that go outside of it. All designs should stay within the baseball/Fredericksburg Nationals theme.
Here's how the program works:
First Base
Gus and representatives from the FredNats front office will visit your school! All students who participate will receive an official Books & Baseball Reading Program Bookmark, presented by Red Door Pro Wash.
Students will be asked to read four books and complete the back of the bookmark. They can then bring their completed bookmark to the FredNats' EquipmentShare SANY Box Office at least 48 hours in advance of their selected game date to exchange it for one FREE standing room only ticket to the game.

Second Base
After redeeming your bookmark, pick up your Gus' Reading Rookies Reading Log at the EquipmentShare SANY Box Office or Wegmans Fan Relations Booth! Students can read more books to earn additional prizes. Once you read 6 more books, bring your log back to pick up your next prize, which is an exclusive button and a water gun from Red Door Pro Wash.
Third Base
Keep reading! Read five more books to take home a Gus' Reading Rookies Poster!
Home Plate
Read a total of 20 books for the final prize! Readers who reach this level will win a lanyard and badge, plus a first pitch!
Reading Program Parades
Celebrate being part of Gus' Reading Rookies Reading Program and take a victory lap around the warning track. There will be three parades during the 2024 season: May 25th, June 22nd and July 27th.
Note: Tickets and prizes based on availability. Bookmark cannot be exchanged for a standing room only ticket on Opening Night or July 3rd. Bookmark expires 9/9/24.
Limited spots are available in the FredNats' Books & Baseball Reading Program, so sign up early to make sure your school can participate! Schools can request visits between mid-January and mid-March.
