Billings, MT - Coming into Friday night's game, the Billings Mustangs were undefeated when they hit a home run, going 5-0. That trend continued, as a home run apiece in the first three innings vaulted the Mustangs to a 4-1 advantage. Billings added on four in the seventh, as the Helena offense was held in check by four Mustangs pitchers. The Brewers lost 8-2, dropping the series two games to one. They now sit in a first place tie at 12-10 with Missoula and Great Falls.
Billings got the scoring started in the first, as Zeek White hit a leadoff home run to straightaway centerfield against Victor Castaneda (L, 0-4). With one out, Jake Turnbull and Drew Mount smacked back to back doubles, plating Turnbull to extend the lead to 2-0.
The home run ball came back to bite Castaneda the very next inning, as he allowed a leadoff home run to Juan Martinez to extend Billings lead to 3-0. It marked the second straight start in which Castaneda allowed multiple home runs.
Helena got on the board in the top of the third inning thanks to a solo shot from Yeison Coca, but gave it right back in the bottom of the frame, as Jake Turnbull hit his first home run of the year, extending the lead back to three.
Ricky Salinas (W,1-1) locked in after the homer, retiring the last seven that he faced, finishing his career long five innings with just one run allowed on two hits.
Helena's offense was blanked by Andrew McDonald in the sixth and seventh, and the Mustangs put the game on ice with a four run seventh, highlighted by a 3 RBI double from Drew Mount. Mount now leads the Pioneer League with 20 RBI. The Brewers added on one run in the ninth on a Nick Egnatuk double.
Your Helena Brewers return home tomorrow for Country Night, presented by US Bank. Fans are encouraged to dress up in country & western attire, and a fireworks show will follow the game, presented by Lewis & Clark Library and Toyota. First pitch is at 7:35 PM.
