BILLINGS, MT  - Billings starter Jared Solomon (W, 2-0) dominated the Brewers when he faced them on Saturday, shutting them out over six innings, and tonight he delivered more of the same. The 2017 11th round pick allowed just three hits over six shutout innings, striking out a career high seven. Behind a four run first inning, the Mustangs (4-8) cruised to a 9-1 win, snapping their four game losing streak. The Brewers (7-6) are now just 1-4 on the road in 2018.
Billings offense, which came into the ballgame last in the league in runs, threw a big punch at the Brewers in the first. Dylan Harris started the inning with a bloop double to right against Justin Bullock (l, 0-2), and with one out he scored on a double from Reshard Munroe. Drew Mount singled home Munroe with two out, and the next batter Bren Spillane homered on a payoff pitch to right, making it 4-0 early.
Bullock then locked in and retired the next ten he faced, but the Brewers were stifled again by Billings starter Jared Solomon. After back to back singles to start the first, Solomon then allowed just two more Brewers to reach base over the next five innings, finishing his line with just three hits over six shutout innings, walking only one.
Billings scored an insurance run in the fifth inning on a two out single from Mariel Bautista, and then added two in the seventh and eighth respectively against the Helena bullpen. Chad McClanahan doubled home a run in the eighth inning to avoid the shutout, but it was too little too late.
The Brewers look to split the brief two game series with the Mustangs tomorrow as they send Wilfred Salaman to the hill for his third start. Billings counters with Luis Alecis. First pitch is at 7:05 PM with the pregame show airing on helenabrewers.net beginning at 6:50.
