Another impressive performance from Eury Perez powers the Jupiter Hammerheads past the Tampa Tarpons 4-2 on Saturday night.
The Dominican Republic native started his 14th game for the Jupiter Hammerheads, as he continues to grow up before our eyes. The 18-year-old pitched only 4.2 innings but made it count with a career-high 11 strikeouts in the game. The righty didn’t allow a hit and gave up one unearned run.
Perez now holds a 1.71 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP on the season. The international signee from 2019 has racked up 77 strikeouts, which leads the team, in his 52.2 innings.
After Perez, the Hammerheads turned to Troy Cruz out of the bullpen. Cruz pitched an efficient 3.1 innings allowing only two hits. The California native picked up his second of the season. For the ninth, it was Robinson Martinez. The 23-year-old earned his second save in 2021 after striking out the side.
From the plate, the Hammerheads were quiet until the fifth inning. Davis Bradshaw got things going with a sharp RBI single to score Bennett Hostetler. Marcus Chiu would come to the plate next and keep the momentum going. The starting first baseman drove in two more runs with a line drive to right field.
The two clubs would trade runs in the sixth inning. Tampa’s run came after a slew of wild pitches. For Jupiter, it was a Hostetler RBI single.
Victor Mesa Jr. had another strong game. He finished 2-4 with two stolen bases.
In just his third professional game, Bennett Hostetler continues to impress. The North Dakota State product went 2-3 with an RBI on Saturday night. The infielder is now hitting .500 with a 1.245 OPS to start off his pro career.
The Marlins' 2nd-round pick in the 2021 Draft, Cody Morissette, picked up his first professional hit with a single. Not only was it his first hit, but it also broke up the no-hitter.
The two teams will finish their six-game series on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
