Jupiter’s offense struggles as Palm Beach shuts out the Hammerheads 7-0 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
The Cardinals starter Pete Hansen stole the show pitching seven shutout innings. The former Texas Longhorn allowed just two hits and struck out a career-high nine batters for Palm Beach.
Jupiter’s starter Cade Gibson also had a strong performance on the mound and matched Hansen’s seven innings. The former 10th-round pick by the Marlins allowed just three hits and two runs while striking out seven. This is Gibson’s second consecutive quality start after pitching six shutout innings last week in St. Lucie.
Out of the bullpen, Hammerheads pitcher Kyle Crigger came into relief for Gibson, but only lasted a third of an inning. Righty Yeremin Lara pitched the final two outs of the inning without allowing a hit.
Birthday Boy Henry Valencio pitched the final frame for the Hammerheads. The Dominican Republic native pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Both offenses were quiet until Palm Beach scored five runs in the eighth inning. Before that, the Cardinals scored once in the fourth and again in the seventh while keeping Jupiter off the scoreboard entirely.
At the plate, only three Hammerheads collected a hit. Javier Sanoja broke up the no-hitter with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning. Andrew Fernandez and Torin Montgomery also collected singles for Jupiter.
The two teams will play again on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Join us for Nurses Appreciation Night with the first pitch at 6:30 PM. Tickets are available here, and all Nurses get in for free with a Valid ID.
