Owners

Randy Boyd has served as UT’s 26th president since November of 2018. Boyd serves as the chief executive officer of a statewide university system. The flagship campus in Knoxville includes the Space Institute in Tullahoma and the statewide Institute of Agriculture. The UT System also includes campuses in Chattanooga, Pulaski and Martin; the Health Science Center in Memphis; and the Institute of Public Service. The UT System also manages Oak Ridge National Laboratory through its UT-Battelle partnership, where Boyd serves as co-Chairman.

In 1991, Boyd founded Knoxville-based Radio Systems Corporation, a company that produces over 4,000 pet related products under the brand names PetSafe, Invisible Fence, ScoopFree and SportDOG. The company employs more than 1,400 people with offices in six countries around the world.

Boyd also owns Boyd Sports, LLC which owns the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. Located just east of Knoxville in Kodak, Tennessee, the Smokies are the AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Boyd Sports also operates teams in several other Tennessee cities, including the Johnson City Doughboys, Elizabethton River Riders, Greeneville Flyboys and the Kingsport Axmen, all of the Appalachian League. As a lifelong baseball fan, Boyd is committed to building community and creating a fun, family-friendly experience at the ballpark.

In 2007, Boyd began a journey transitioning from entrepreneur and businessman to full time public servant. Boyd is a founder and Chairman of tnAchieves, a non-profit which has helped send over 133,000 students to community college free of tuition and fees. This success led Governor Haslam to invite him to serve as Special Advisor on Higher Education in 2013. During his tenure, he is credited with being the architect of the Drive to 55 and the Tennessee Promise. In 2015, Governor Haslam recruited him back to serve as Commissioner of Economic and Community Development. During his tenure his team recruited 52,000 new jobs and $9 billion in new investment in the State. He also founded and co-Chaired the Governor’s Rural Task Force and Chaired the Governor’s Workforce Sub-Cabinet.

Randy and Jenny Boyd have dedicated their lives to giving back. In 2018, the couple formed the Boyd Foundation to further promote youth education, mental health, the arts and animal welfare. Among the Foundation’s many philanthropic commitments is the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research and Boyd Venture Challenge seed grant program for student entrepreneurs, both through the Haslam College of Business at UT Knoxville.

Boyd is the first in his family to graduate from college. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis on industrial management from UT Knoxville. He also earned a master’s degree in liberal studies with a focus on foreign policy from the University of Oklahoma.

When not working for UT, Boyd enjoys running and has run over 85 half marathons and 47 full marathons, including one in Antarctica. But his favorite time is spent as Jenny’s husband of 37 years, father to his two sons, and being Poppi to his two granddaughters.

Executives

In over 20 years with Smokies baseball, Doug Kirchhofer has played a key role in the growth and direction of the Smokies organization. Kirchhofer has over 30 years of hands-on experience in minor league franchise development and sports facility management, as well as a finance background.

Kirchhofer, who serves as CEO of Boyd Sports in Tennessee, is a Class of 2007 graduate of Leadership Knoxville and has made East Tennessee his permanent home since 1981 despite sometimes working in other locations, because of his love for the region.

Before joining the Smokies, he served as president and CEO of Cincinnati Entertainment Associates, Ltd., and oversaw the acquisition and $16 million renovation of Riverfront Coliseum, transforming the aging downtown building into the then-named Firstar Center. He served as president and CEO of the Cincinnati Cyclones professional ice hockey team from 1990-2001.

Kirchhofer got his start in professional sports in 1989 as part of the group that formed and operated the Nashville Knights of the East Coast Hockey League. Later in the 1990s, Kirchhofer became part owner of the Birmingham Bulls, an offshoot of the Cincinnati franchise. During his years in Cincinnati, he also was involved with teams in minor league basketball and professional indoor soccer.

Kirchhofer’s ties to Tennessee include vice president/finance for Concoal Management Company in Knoxville and service on the board of directors at First Heritage National Bank in Loudon. Prior to Kirchhofer’s arrival in Tennessee, he was a manager in the tax department of a public accounting firm in Atlanta, a job he held after earning a master’s degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois. Kirchhofer also graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration.

He and his wife, Lana, have two grown children, Kristi and Kyle, and four grandsons, Jay, Tanner, Drew and Evan. The couple both have served as board members of the Christian Academy of Knoxville, and Doug Kirchhofer served a term as president of the school’s board.

Kirchhofer also is a Class of 2003 graduate of Leadership Sevier and Class of 2006 graduate of East Tennessee Regional Leadership.

Chris Allen is the President of the Smokies Baseball team. Chris received his B.S. In Sports Management from Liberty University, and brings over a decade of professional sports management experience.

Prior to joining the organization, Chris worked for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, South Coast League, Salem Avalanche, Wilson Tobs and Chillicothe Paints. While working for the Tobs, Chris also spent four years working with the NCAA directing regional baseball tournaments.

In addition to his baseball career, Chris' business interests include majority ownership of Sayin' it Loud, a transit advertising agency serving Baltimore, Md. and metro Washington D.C.

In the past 15 years Chris has served on numerous Boards, including the North Carolina Baseball Museum, Greater Baden Medical Services, Maryland Tourism Advisory Board, and Madison Heights Dixie Youth Baseball. Chris currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of East Tennessee.

Chris and Elisa reside in Dandridge, Tennessee with their four children Casey (16), Chase (12), Carolina (8), and Charley (2).

Jeremy is in his 10th season with the Smokies and eighth as Vice President for Boyd Sports, after previously serving as Assistant General Manager and Director of Corporate Sales. Jeremy has played a key role in the growth and direction of the Boyd Sports.

Prior to joining the Smokies & Boyd Sports Jeremy spent three years as the General Manager of the Forest City Owls in the Coastal Plain League. Before joining the Owls he served as the Corporate Marketing Manager for the Winston-Salem Dash and helped open BB&T Ballpark.

Jeremy received his B.A. from Gardner-Webb University, in Boiling Springs, NC. with a degree in Business Administration. A North Carolina native, he resides in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Adrienne, daughters Brynn and Ava and his son Miles.

Tim is in his 10th season with the Smokies. He returned for his second stint with the Smokies when he was named the Smokies' Director of Ticket and Group Sales in September of 2013, followed by a promotion to Assistant General Manager in 2015 then General Manager in 2017. Previously, he spent three seasons with the Smokies as a Group Sales Department. Prior to returning to the organization, Tim worked for TDS Telecommunications as a Senior Sales Advisor, then with IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions at The University of Tennessee as a Senior Account Executive. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native is a graduate from UT with a degree in Sport Management, minoring in Business Administration. Tim lives in Dandridge with his wife, Mindy, and four kids, Savannah, Mazdyn, Jaxson, Brielle, and their dog, Taber.

Tim also serves on the University of Tennessee Recreation & Sport Management Practitioners Advisory Board, the Knoxville Partners in Education Advisory Board, and the Advisory Council for Jefferson County Schools.

Chris enters his sixth season with Boyd Sports and fourth with Boyd Hospitality. He led the Smokies corporate partnership department for two seasons before taking on the Director of Food & Beverage position in 2018. In that time, Chris has managed concessions for all Boyd Sports clubs (Smokies, Johnson City, Greeneville, Elizabethton, and Kingsport), started a food truck (The Fowl Pole) in 2020, and opened a restaurant (The Batter’s Box Bar & Grill) in 2021. Previously, Chris held General Manager positions with the Joliet Slammers and River City Rascals of the independent Frontier League.

Chris lives in Knoxville with his wife, Tammy, and two sons Cole and Luke. They enjoy spending their free time in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park among other outdoor activities.

Bryan “Webby” Webster has spent a quarter century as part of the Smokies organization filling several roles including Assistant General Manager of Stadium Operations since 2016. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and lives in Strawberry Plains with his wife Rachel and their sons Jonathan and Patrick. Prior to moving to Tennessee, he lived in South Carolina where he was part of the last class of Green Gremlins to graduate from the halls of Bennettsville High School. Originally from Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, he has enjoyed watching several Canadians come through the Southern League including MVP performances by Joey Votto (2006) and Tyler O’Neill (2016). He will be passionately cheering for Team Canada, including former Smokies Rob Zastryzny and Jared Young, in the upcoming WBC.

Administration

Tolena is in her 25th season with the Smokies; she and her husband Steve are involved with Cure Finders, an organization working toward a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, in memory of their daughter La'Shanna. Tolena worked as a sales representative & merchandiser for various companies in the area. Her education is in accounting and bookkeeping. Originally from Belfry, Kentucky, she moved to Kodak 25 years ago.

Ballpark Operations

Bill has two children (Alex and Corey). He moved here last year from Bunker Hill, Indiana. Bill graduated From Indiana Wesleyan University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in accounting.

Previously, he spent 16 years working as a manager, business contact and an authorized officer for an independent contractor at FedEx Ground.

He has been a diehard Chicago Cubs fan his whole life. When he was 2 or 3 years old, while at a Cubs game, Ernie Banks (Mr. Cub), carried him around during batting practice and gave him a tour of Wrigley Field.

Bobby is entering his fifth year with Boyd Sports, and first with the Smokies. He previously worked in the Appalachian League, first with the Kingsport Axmen as an intern, and then with the Elizabethton River Riders as a Graduate Assistant. Bobby graduated from East Tennessee State University where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Sports Management.

Originally from Peachtree City, Georgia, he has lived in Tennessee for seven years. In his free time he enjoys watching sports, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors.

Ticket & Group Sales

Emily Butler is entering her fourth year with the Smokies and second as Director of Ticket & Group Sales. Emily started her Minor League Baseball journey as an Intern for the Greeneville Reds working in ticket sales. Emily has a degree in Sport Science and a Masters in Sport Administration from Tusculum University where she played softball for 4 seasons. Originally from Milford, Michigan, Emily’s favorite teams are the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. After living in Tennessee for 8 years, Emily has become a fan of the University of Tennessee!

This will be Brett's sixth season with the Smokies, but 13th year in Minor League Baseball. You will find him in the Ticket Office as well as building relationships with Smokies Season Ticket Holders. In Minor League Baseball, he has previously run the Ticket Office for the Frisco RoughRiders and Potomac Nationals and done sales and other tasks with the Peoria Chiefs, Richmond Flying Squirrels, and Lancaster JetHawks. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Sport Management. Besides rooting for the Gators in every sport, the Orlando, FL native also roots for the Atlanta Braves, Orlando Magic, Washington Capitals, Tottenham Hotspur, Washington Redskins/Football Team, and Orlando City FC.. While not at the ballpark, Brett enjoys watching and playing sports, binge watching tv shows/movies, and just having a good time with friends and family.

Jake is now in his third year with the Smokies. Originally from Johnson City, TN, Jake graduated from East Tennessee State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management in the Fall of 2021. Jake is a huge Tennessee fan of all sports, along with being a fan of the Atlanta Braves and Cubs. During his time away from the office, he loves spending time in the outdoors, playing golf, and spending time with his dogs, Smokey and Bandit.

This is Breanna's second season with the Smokies. She graduated from the University of the Cumberlands in 2021 with Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Fitness and Sports Management. She is currently in Graduate school at Lincoln Memorial University, studying to get her Master's degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Sports Management.

An avid sports fan, Breanna's favorite teams are the New York Islanders, the University of Michigan, and the Detroit Tigers.

Nic is entering into his second season with the Smokies after spending a couple of years in youth travel baseball. Originally from Butler, Pennsylvania, he graduated from Slippery Rock University with his Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management.

As a supporter, Nic enjoys watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Purdue Men’s basketball while slowly becoming a fan of Tennessee athletics. In his free time, he enjoys lifting, golfing, and binge-watching movies.

Jacob in his second year with the Smokies. Originally from San Diego, California, Jacob is a senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, majoring in recreation and sports management with a minor in business administration. Jacob is an avid Tennessee sports fan along with being a lifelong fan of the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Rams. In his free time Jacob enjoys to fly fish, hit the trails hiking, and watch college football.

Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, Hannah graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2024 with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management where she was a cheerleader for four years. She is also an avid Cubs fan!

Corporate Sales

Steve enters his third season with Boyd Sports and second with the Smokies after having spent the 2021 season as the General Manager of the Kingsport Axmen. He previously served as the Director of Corporate Partnerships for the Louisville Bats. Steve's prior experience also includes roles with IMG Learfield at Miami University (OH), the Cincinnati Reds, the Gwinnett Braves as well as General Manager of the Burlington Royals. 2006 marked his first year working in baseball while completing an internship with the Memphis Redbirds.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Steve graduated from Xavier University with a degree in Sport Management and a minor in Business. Outside of his love for baseball, Steve enjoys traveling, spending time with his wife and two daughters as well as watching and playing many different sports including basketball, golf and tennis.

This is Logan's second season working with the Smokies. Previously, Logan served as General Manager of the Kingsport Axmen in the Appalachian League where he spent a total of two seasons. Logan has a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Sport Management along with a Master's in Business Administration from Campbellsville University, where he played baseball for 5 seasons.

In his free time, Logan enjoys playing golf, working out and watching sports, including his favorite teams being the Louisville Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Ravens.

Baylor has been with the Smokies for twelve years in a variety of roles and currently serves as the Assistant Director of Corporate Partnerships. Baylor holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Whittier College, where she was a four-year Varsity Letter on the Poet Swim Team and spent a semester studying in Budapest, Hungary.

Originally from Bothell, Washington; a suburb of Seattle, Baylor now resides in Knoxville with her husband and their Dog and Cat.

Alyssa graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Sports Media. She is currently pursuing her master’s in Sports Management at the University of Kansas.

From Burleson, Texas, in her free time she loves watching the Texas Rangers and spending time with her friends and family!

Marketing, Entertainment, Community Relations

Aris is in his seventh year with the Smokies. As Assistant General Manager of Marketing & Entertainment, Aris puts together the best show in Double-A Baseball and the state of Tennessee. He is responsible for all promotions, production, theme nights, and giveaways.

With this, he is also responsible for overseeing the club's marketing initiatives, including brand leadership, electronic marketing, media relations, community relations, outside appearances, creative services, and social media, as well as managing content of the team's publications and websites.

He works closely with the four other teams in Boyd Sports, handling giveaways and other promotional assets.

He previously served as the Manager of Promotions for the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino, in addition to the Lakewood BlueClaws, and Scout Media. From Galloway, New Jersey, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Radio Television Film from Rowan University. In his free time, he enjoys trying new restaurants, and exploring landmarks and locations.

Lindsay is starting her third season with the Smokies as the Creative Services Manager.

She graduated from Messiah University with a bachelor's degree in Digital Media. She is originally from Pennsylvania and spends her free time exploring new places, hiking, reading, and doing photography.

Previously serving as the Marketing and Community Relations Coordinator for the past three seasons, Lindsey is now entering her fourth season with the Tennessee Smokies in a new role as the Social Media and Community Relations Coordinator. She recently graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing.

Originally from Thousand Oaks, California, she is an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Kings. She also roots for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Merchandising

Kenny is entering his second season with the Smokies. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Hospitality Management. He has an extensive background in the hospitality industry, however this will be his first year working in minor league baseball. Kenny moved to Tennessee in 2021 with his fiancé, Savannah, and their 3 dogs, Kylo, Vada, and Nova. Originally from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, Kenny grew up rooting for the Cubs and all Chicago sports.

Julian is in his second season with the Smokies. He graduated from Carson-Newman University in 2022 with his BA in Religion and is an ordained Christian minister. He has over five years of experience in retail and customer service at different companies; such as, K-VA-T and Tractor Supply.

Julian was born in Knoxville and currently lives in East Tennessee with his wife, Greta. He loves spending time with his family and friends, serving the local Church, playing video games, and supporting his favorite sports teams. He is an avid supporter of the Tennessee Titans, Tennessee Vols, Nashville SC, Chelsea FC, and the USMNT. He also supports One Knoxville SC, the Knoxville Ice Bears, the Nashville Predators, and the Atlanta Hawks.

Outside Events

Richie enters his second season with the Smokies as the Outside Events Coordinator. Last season, Richie was a part of the broadcast team on radio and MiLB.TV for the Smokies, while also handling media relations for the team.

Originally from Canfield, Ohio, Richie graduated from Youngstown State University in 2022 with a degree in sports broadcasting. A loyal Cleveland fan, his favorite teams are the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Cleveland Guardians.

During his time away from office, Richie enjoys fishing, working out, playing golf, and line dancing.

Finance

Prior to joining Boyd Sports, Paul has over 30 years of finance and accounting experience in manufacturing, distribution, private equity, and joint venture environments previously working for businesses such as Philips Consumer Electronics, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Smiths Detection, and DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Products. He has previously held positions of Accounting Manager, Controller, and Finance Manager with business responsibilities for accounting, financial planning, analysis, internal controls, project management, and information systems.

Paul received his B.S. from the University of TN, Knoxville with a degree in Finance. He resides in Knoxville with his wife, Angie, two daughters Stevie and Danni and son Brock. Paul enjoys time with his family, volunteering and serving in his church, and hunting and fishing in the great outdoors.

Michelle Conway is entering her 6th season with the Smokies as Admin/Finance Assistant. Michelle brings extensive experience in the area of Finance and Accounting along with Human Resources. Originally for Tallahassee, Florida. Michelle and her husband Lee moved to Tennessee in 2016. They have 2 children and one grandson Nolan, and one on the way. In her free time she loves to travel, camping in their RV and spending time with Lee. Go Noles !!

Cheryl and her husband Jim moved to Tennessee in 2013. Cheryl worked in Radio and Advertising for 20 years and also has a background in Accounting. They have one son and in her spare time, Cheryl is a homebody who loves to entertain family and friends, bake and make candy! Oh…and she loves cutting the grass! LOL

Broadcasting

Veteran broadcaster Mick Gillispie is renowned through his work with the Chicago Cubs and is "the voice" of the Smokies. Since the 2011 season, Gillispie has handled play-by-play and produced Chicago Cubs' spring training games on MLB.com, and has been the lead broadcaster of the Smokies since 2007. Mick is also a contributor to CSN-Chicago where his interviews, play-by-play calls and packages have been routinely featured.

College Football fans in Alabama recognize Mick as host of the very popular 'Tide Tailgate Show' and 'Tide Post Game Live'. The pre-game and post-game shows on Tide102.9 FM accompany Alabama Crimson Tide football on the official Flagship radio station.

Mick can be seen on the SEC Network an ESPN subsidiary broadcasting games. This includes covering a verity of sports and events such as Men's Basketball and Baseball.

Gillispie earned the award as Southern League Broadcaster of the Year, voted on by peers and colleagues. Mick was named Ballpark Digest's Broadcaster of the Year in 2017.

Hospitality

David just completed his second season with the team and fourth as a Restaurant Manager at Smokies Stadium (2 season under an outside restaurant group.) He has 18 years of experience in the restaurant/hospitality industry (12 of which were in Sevier County).

The East Tennessee native is an avid baseball fan who has rooted for the Smokies his entire life, and enjoys "America's Favorite Pastime" every chance he gets in his free time.

Tyler is entering his second year as Concession Manager for the Smokies. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Operations Management from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a Master's degree in Sports Management from Wingate University. During his Master's program, he held a position in Frisco, TX with FC Dallas MLS Club as an Operations and Guest Relations Intern. Originally from Charlotte, NC, Tyler enjoys watching the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Hurricanes, and Atlanta Braves.

Drew is currently in his fourth year with Boyd Sports. He began as an intern with the Greeneville Flyboys for two seasons and is now completing his first full season with the Tennessee Smokies. He graduated from Tusculum University with a Bachelor's in Sport Science and a Masters in Sports Management, while also playing baseball for Tusculum.

Drew is originally from Mooresville, NC and his favorite teams are the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Guardians, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Groundskeeping

Joe is entering his second season as Head Groundskeeper with the Smokies. Previously, Joe spent 3 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates caring for their spring training stadium and home of Bradenton Marauders, where he was named 2023 Florida State League Head Groundskeeper of the Year. Prior to working for the Pirates, Joe was the Head Groundskeeper for the Lynchburg Hillcats for 2 years. Joe also spent 3.5 years on the athletics grounds crew at Liberty University, is his hometown of Lynchburg, VA.

In his free time, you can find Joe running the energy out of his 2 Australian Shepherds Bourbon and Brandy, exploring the woods, hunting or fishing.

Jacob is starting his third season with the Smokies, first as Assistant Groundskeeper. His two seasons were as a part of the gameday grounds crew. Prior to that, Jacob worked in warehouses and landscaping. He has accreditation in Diesel Mechanics and Turf Management.

Originally from Winton, California, Jacob and his family moved to Tennessee in 2021. Baseball has always been a passion of his, whether it be playing or watching. He also enjoys watching other sports and fishing. Most of all he loves spending time with his wife, Leah, and kids, Annalee, Aubree, and Jed; and going on adventures with them.
