The Lake Elsinore Storm returned to The Diamond tonight for another 6 game series against the Inland Empire 66ers and kept up with their winning ways despite multiple roster changes.
Max Ferguson and Cole Cummings were both promoted to the High A Fort Wayne Tin Caps prior to tonight's game, taking away two mainstays in the Storm's lineup. That did not seem to phase the Storm, however. In the bottom of the first, they would have 4 different players reach base and score 3 runs before they recorded their first out. They would leave the inning with a 4 run lead and on their way to yet another victory in Lake Elsinore.
The rest of the game would be mostly quiet, aside from the sound of Manuel Castro, starting his 2nd game in Lake Elsnore, striking out 12 different 66ers in 5.2 innings. Falling just 1 run short of a quality start, Castro was untouchable for most of the game before allowing a 2 run home run to leave the ballpark and reduce the Storm's lead to just 2 runs.
As they have all year long, the Storm would immediately respond with a run of their own. A perfectly executed double steal would get catcher, Juan Zabala to second base and old friend, Angel Solarte to score a run. His first run since returning to Lake Elsinore after spending the first half of the season with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps.
The Storm would strikeout 15 batters in total, taking home their 42nd win of the season.
They will play the 66ers again tomorrow night on Woof Wednesday. A night where you can bring your favorite dog to the ballpark for just $1.
