PEARL, MS – The Mississippi Braves (53-68, 20-33) scored three unanswered runs in a 3-2 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas (55-67, 24-29) on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park.

Daniel Martinez struck out a career-high nine batters, and the M-Braves pitching staff combined for a season-high 18 strikeouts. Martinez pitched five innings and allowed two runs in his fourth start for the M-Braves this season. In two starts since returning to Double-A from High-A Rome, Martinez has allowed four runs in 11 innings.

Rocket City scored the first two runs of the game in the second and the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The M-Braves bullpen shined behind Martinez. Trey Riley walked the bases loaded but escaped trouble by striking out the side. Domingo Gonzalez earned his third win with two shutout innings in the seventh and the eighth. Tyler Owens picked up his second save with a pair of strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Both clubs struggled to bring in baserunners, leaving a combined 20 runners on base. After knocking on the door in a few innings, the M-Braves started to score runners in the sixth. A balk brought in the M-Braves first run to make it 2-1. In the seventh, Cal Conley led off with a double and scored on a Jesse Franklin V single to tie the game at 2-2. Hendrik Clementina scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, sliding just ahead of a tag from the pitcher to give the M-Braves a 3-2 lead.

Three different M-Braves recorded multiple hits. Conley went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a walk. Cody Milligan and Bryson Horne each picked up two hits. Horne has five multi-hit games and five doubles in 13 games for the M-Braves. He was promoted from High-A Rome on August 8. Clementina reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks. He caught 25 innings over the last two days.

The third game of the series is on Thursday night at Trustmark Park. LHP Luis De Avila (6-9, 3.76) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Brett Kerry (6-4, 4.16) will start for Rocket City. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
