Fisher Cats split Saturday doubleheader against Harrisburg

New Hampshire claims game one but Harrisburg responds in game two

HARRISBURG, P.A — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, split Saturday’s doubleheader against the Harrisburg Senators, winning game one 6-1 and losing game two 7-2 at FNB Field.

In the first game, the Fisher Cats blasted a pair of homers off Harrisburg left-hander Dustin Saenz (0-1) in his Double-A debut. Leo Jimenez hit his third homer of the year and his second of the series with a two-run shot to left-center in the second. Damiano Palmegiani extended his team-long hit streak to 11 games with a solo homer in the third.

Orelvis Martinez drove in his 39th and 40th runs batted in of the season with a two-run single in the sixth to cushion the lead.

On the mound, right-hander Luis Quinones made his first start of the season in the first game of the doubleheader for New Hampshire. The Puerto Rican right-hander threw 3.2 innings, allowing just one run on two hits and no walks while striking out six, a new season-high, in a no-decision.

Right-hander Nick Fraze (2-0) picked up the victory after a season-high 3.1 shutout innings of relief and a season-high four strikeouts.

In the second game, New Hampshire (29-26) scored first with a two-run homer by Martinez to left-center, his 16th of the season. The Blue Jays No. 4 prospect is just one home run shy of the league lead behind Hartford’s Hunter Goodman.

Harrisburg (28-27) answered with two runs in the first, three runs in the third and two more runs in the fourth off New Hampshire starting left-hander Jimmy Robbins (2-5). James Wood went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Terone Harris III hit a two-run homer off Robbins in the third.

The offense went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position in the second game.

The Fisher Cats finish their six-game road trip against the Harrisburg Senators tomorrow at 1:00 pm. RHP Adam Kloffenstein (4-2, 3.12 ERA) will get the start for New Hampshire against RHP Michael Cuevas (2-1, 5.28 ERA).

The next home stand for the Fisher Cats begins Tuesday, June 13 against the Akron Rubberducks. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a free hat, courtesy of Delta Dental.
