WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 14, 2023) — After dropping three-straight contests, Brooklyn made the number three count in a different way on Friday night. CF Alex Ramírez and RF Stanley Consuegra clubbed three-run home runs in the first and second innings, respectively, as the Cyclones clubbed the Winston-Salem Dash, 8-3, at Truist Stadium.
Brooklyn wasted no time putting their offense in gear. SS César Berbesi lined the first pitch of the game for a single and, two pitches later, C Kevin Parada followed with a knock of his own.
On a 3-2 pitch, Ramírez unleashed a towering blast to right-center field for a three-run home run. The 444-foot shot — the 20-year-old’s first of the season — put Brooklyn (3-4) ahead, 3-0.
An inning later, a two-out rally spurred the Cyclones forward. 1B Brad Malm walked, stole second, and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Parada shortly followed with a looping RBI single to push Brooklyn’s cushion to five.
Following a walk to Ramírez, it was Consuegra’s turn to join the homer parade. On a pay-off pitch, the 22-year-old blasted a laser that had just enough height to sneak over the fence in left-center for a three-RBI shot. Consuegra’s second of the season put the Cyclones in front, 8-0.
The Dash (3-2) utilized the long ball themselves, but could not complete a comeback.
LF Ben Norman unfurled a two-run blast down the line in left in the bottom of the second to trim Winston-Salem’s deficit to 8-2. In the sixth, RF D.J. Gladney pounded the first pitch of the inning for a solo shot to make it a five-run contest.
The ‘Clones pitching staff was on point in Friday’s decisive win. RHP Raimon Gómez punched out a career-high seven over 3.0 innings in his second start of the year. LHP Daniel Juárez posted 2.0-shutout frames for his first win. RHP Manny Rodríguez hurled a career-best 3.0 innings, while RHP Jace Beck worked a scoreless ninth to end it.
RHP Andrew Dalquist was unable to escape the second inning for the Dash, taking the defeat. He yielded four runs over 1.2 innings in his season debut.
Brooklyn will try and make it back-to-back victories on Saturday night. RHP Tyler Stuart (0-0, 0.00 ERA) gets the nod for the Cyclones in his second start of the season. Winston-Salem’s is slated to hand the ball to LHP Brooks Gosswein (NR). First pitch from Truist Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
