COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia Fireflies, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball and the Carolina League, today announced that outfielder River Town was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for April 18-24.
Town had an incredible series against the Down East Wood Ducks at Segra Park. In four games, he went 9-15, blasting three homers and legging out four doubles, both of which were most in the League. The outfielder also drew five walks, stole two bases, drove in five RBI and scored seven runs for the Fireflies.
While the raw numbers are impressive, the averages seem even more eyepopping. Town carried a .600/.700/1.467 slash line that highlighted an astronomical .867 ISO.
The Louisiana native is the first Columbia Fireflies player to win the award since *Juan Carlos Negret *won the Low-A East Player of the Week Award for July 5-11 of the 2021 season.
The Fireflies return home for a series vs the Delmarva Shorebirds May 2-8. The series will include a t-shirt giveaway, a fireworks show, a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday and much more fun! Tickets are available at FirefliesTickets.com.
