LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 30, 2023) — RHP Jace Beck tied a career-best with seven strikeouts, earning the victory out of the bullpen, as the Brooklyn Cyclones dominated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 8-0, on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

RHP Blade Tidwell made the start, going 3.2 scoreless innings before departing after 64 pitches. Beck (3-2) entered and — following a walk to the first man he faced — punched out the next five batters consecutively.

Beck went on to record all seven of his outs via the strikeout, ultimately earning his third win of the year. RHP Brendan Hardy entered in support and recorded his first four outs via the strikeout, marking 11 straight outs via a punchout.

RHP Michael Krauza recorded the final out in the eighth, while RHP Joshua Cornielly hurled a scoreless ninth to secure Brooklyn’s (20-23) fourth shutout win of 2023.

Scoreless after two frames, the Cyclones hung a crooked number on the scoreboard in the third.

CF Alex Ramírez poked a single with one out and moved to second on a throwing error in from the outfield. C Kevin Parada followed with a run-scoring knock to right, giving Brooklyn a 1-0 edge.

After a caught stealing and back-to-back walks to SS William Lugo and LF Jaylen Palmer, RF Omar De Los Santos cranked a double down the left-field line. Both runners came across to score on the two-base hit, putting the Cyclones in charge, 3-0.

In the fifth, Brooklyn tacked on. Parada ignited a rally with a single and scooted to third on a double to left by Lugo. With two out, De Los Santos bounced a grounder to short. The throw to first sailed over the first baseman’s mitt for an error. Two men dashed to the plate, expanding the ‘Clones cushion to 5-0.

An inning later, the Cyclones capped the scoring. 1B José Mena reached on an infield single and took second on a wild pitch. Following a walk to 3B Mateo Gil, 2B César Berbesi ripped an RBI double. A wild pitch and a balk allowed both Gil and Berbesi to dent the pentagon, providing Brooklyn an 8-0 lead.

LHP Rafael Marcano (2-2) lasted four innings and permitted three runs for Jersey Shore, suffering his second defeat.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Cyclones will attempt to continue their winning ways in a doubleheader against the BlueClaws from ShoreTown Ballpark. RHP Cameron Foster (2-3, 4.02) is projected to take the hill for Brooklyn in the lid-lifter, while RHP Joander Suárez (1-3, 7.67) schedules to make the start in the nightcap. Jersey Shore has not announced a probable for the opener, but RHP Jon Duplantier (0-0, 6.00) is expected to make his second Minor League rehab start in game two. First pitch of game one is slated for 5:35 p.m.
