COLUMBIA, SC – The Fireflies battled mother nature Tuesday evening at Segra Park and ultimately lost. The Fireflies and Fredericksburg Nationals tilt was delayed in the bottom of the third inning with one out. The game will be picked up as part of a doubleheader tomorrow night at 5:30 at Segra Park. Gates for the games will open at 5 pm.
The first game will play the traditional nine innings and then following a 30-minute break, the two teams will play a seven inning second game.
Both starting pitchers got off to a strong start, as there was only one base runner through the first inning-and-a-half when we hit our first weather delay. A pop-up shower forced a 37-minute rain delay heading to the bottom of the second before play was resumed at Segra Park.
The two teams played for an additional 20 minutes before a second delay ensued, finishing the rest of the night.
Columbia will continue their series with Fredericksburg tomorrow night at Segra Park. RHP Ben Kudrna (4-3, 3.91 ERA) takes the hill for Columbia and Fredericksburg counters with RHP Luke Young (0-2, 4.58 ERA).
