Ben Peoples (W, 3-3) spun five hitless innings, walking five and fanning eight before handing the ball to Neraldo Catalina who worked a pair of hitless innings. Then Kamron Fields closed out the game and after two, two-out errors for the RiverDogs, he gave up the first hit and runs of the game. First, Carter Jensen scored off an Erick Peña ground into a 1-2 fielder’s choice. Next, Omar Florentino lifted a single to right that plated Dayton Dooney.
Jensen worked three walks on the ball game and Vazquez also was able to draw a pair of free passes in the loss.
The RiverDogs (44-20) scored a pair off starter Ben Kudrna (L, 0-3) in each of the first two innings. It ended Kudrna’s stretch without allowing an earned run at 14.1 innings. Charleston would continue the beat down in the fourth, scoring a handful of runs off Matt Stil and Ryan Hennen.
Columbia continues their series with the RiverDogs tomorrow evening at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park at 7:05 pm. LHP Frank Mozzicato (0-2, 5.94 ERA) gets the nod for Columbia and RHP JJ Goss (0-4, 6.38 ERA) counters for Charleston.
