Brooklyn wins 6-1, behind four total home runs, Tidwell’s stong start

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (June 23, 2023) - Thanks to four home runs and six innings of one-run ball from RHP Blade Tidwell, the Brooklyn Cyclones took down the Hudson Valley Renegades, 6-1, on Friday night at Maimonides Park. The win is Brooklyn’s second consecutive victory, and evens the six game set at two apiece ahead of Saturday and Sunday’s contests.

One day removed from their 5-1 win on Thursday, it did not take long for the Brooklyn bats to get going. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, 3B William Lugo grounded into a double play, allowing CF Alex Ramírez to come home and score the game’s first run.

The bottom of the third is when Chris Newell’s squad really started to click offensively. Leading off the frame, C Kevin Parada started things off with a solo shot to left. Two batters later, Lugo scorched his second home run in as many days. He’d go on to finish with a multi-hit game, the second straight day he’s accomplished that feat as well. Two batters after Lugo’s long ball, LF Jaylen Palmer got involved in the action when he tucked a line drive just beyond the left field wall. It’s the first time this season that the ‘Clones have clubbed three long balls in a frame.

The Renegades responded a few frames later in the fifth, when 2B Luis Santos singled on a sharp line drive to center, scoring RF Grant Richardson. That would be the only scoring Hudson Valley could muster on the night.

Brooklyn tacked on some insurance in the sixth. With two outs and a runner on second, Parada hit a deep fly ball to left center field that split the gap and caused two Renegades outfielders to collide. This enabled Parada to round the bases completely for an inside-the-park-home run, his second long ball of the night. Friday marked the Mets’ 2022 first round selection’s first career multi-home run game. Brooklyn never looked back from its 6-1 lead.

The Cyclones return to action tomorrow night at Maimonides Park against the Renegades at 6:00 p.m. RHP Cameron Foster (2-4, 5.06 ERA) is set to take the mound for Brooklyn to try to hand the Cyclones their third-straight win. RHP Juan Carela (2-2, 3.04 ERA) is Hudson Valley’s listed probable.
