BROOKLYN, N.Y. (June 24, 2023) - The Brooklyn Cyclones shut out the Hudson Valley Renegades on Saturday evening at Maimonides Park, 2-0. The win marks Brooklyn’s third straight victory.
It’s the first time the ‘Clones have taken three straight since May 17-21, when Brooklyn took four in a row over the Renegades in Wappingers Falls. The victory also marks the Cyclones sixth shutout win of the 2023 season.
RHP Cameron Foster, Brooklyn’s probable starter, was a late scratch due to lower back tightness. RHP Joshua Cornielly made the start in Foster’s place. Cornielly had not started a game since 2019, operating exclusively as a reliever. The Caraças, Venezuela native hurled three innings of two-hit ball, while striking out five.
RHP Dylan Tebrake, LHP Eli Ankeney, and RHP Wilkin Ramos carried the load the rest of the way, en route to the shutout.
The only scoring of the entire contest occurred in the home half of the first inning. After CF Alex Ramírez led the frame off with a walk, C Kevin Parada lined a triple to center field, plating Ramírez for the game’s first run. The 2022 first-round pick has now hit safely in seven-straight games, with five extra-base hits during that span.
The very next batter, RF Abraham Almonte, skied a sacrifice fly to right, doubling Brooklyn’s lead. No runs scored on either side the rest of the way.
Brooklyn can clinch the series win over Hudson Valley tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at Maimonides Park. LHP José Quintana is set to make a major-league rehab assignment appearance with the ‘Clones. He’ll oppose RHP Drew Thorpe (6-1, 2.64 ERA), the No. 6 prospect in the Yankees organization according to MLB Pipeline.
