WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (July 20, 2023) — RHP Blade Tidwell earned his team-leading seventh win of the year with 6.1 innings of one-run ball, as the Brooklyn Cyclones hung on to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades, 4-3, on Thursday night at Heritage Financial Park.
Scoreless through two innings, Brooklyn (15-6, 43-43) broke through with a crooked number in the top of the third. 3B Mateo Gil and DH César Berbesi worked walks to start the frame before RF Rhylan Thomas slapped a single to right, loading the bases.
With CF Alex Ramírez at the plate, a wild pitch chased in Gil to give the Cyclones a 1-0 advantage.
After Ramírez was plunked to re-load the bases, C Kevin Parada powered a sacrifice fly to deep center to advance all three runners and extend Brooklyn’s advantage to 2-0.
Following another wild pitch that chased in Thomas, SS William Lugo smacked a ball through the drawn-in infield for a run-scoring single. Ramírez chugged home to cap the Cyclones’ four-run frame.

Brooklyn kept Hudson Valley (10-11, 49-38) off the board until the bottom of the seventh.
LF Grant Richardson started the rally for the ‘Gades by hammering the first pitch of the inning beyond the fence in left-center field for a solo home run. The 23-year-old’s ninth of the season put Hudson Valley within three, 4-1.
Trailing a ground out and a pitching change, 3B Eduardo Torrealba doubled and 2B Luis Santos followed with a walk. After the latter was caught stealing second on a double-steal attempt, CF Spencer Jones ripped a single to left to cut Brooklyn’s lead to two, 4-2.
In the eighth, C Agustin Ramírez blasted the second offering of the frame well beyond the wall in left for another solo shot. The 21-year-old’s third since joining the High-A level sliced the Renegades’ deficit to one, 4-3.
RHP Dylan Hall entered with the tying run at first and two out in the eighth and registered a strikeout to keep the lead intact.
RHP Paul Gervase came on to close it out for the ‘Clones in the ninth. After a strikeout and a ground out to short to start his night, the Fuquay-Varina, N.C. native fell behind Jones 2-0.
Gervase’s final pitch was blasted to deep right field, but Thomas made an incredible leaping grab at the fence to retire Jones and secure Brooklyn’s 4-3 victory.

Tidwell (7-3) earned the win for his seventh-straight decision. Despite walking three and striking out only four, the Loretto, Tenn. native allowed one run on just four hits. Gervase was credited with his fifth save.
RHP Zach Messinger (1-8) fared well outside of his four-run third but was saddled with his eighth defeat for the ‘Gades.
The Cyclones will attempt to earn at least a series split on Friday night. RHP Jordany Ventura (0-0, 0.00 ERA) — the Mets’ No. 19 prospect by MLB Pipeline — is expected to take the hill for Brooklyn. LHP Brock Selvidge (NR) anticipates taking the hill for Hudson Valley in his High-A debut. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
