LAKEWOOD, N.J. (August 1, 2023) — SS Jett Williams reached base four times, collected a double, drove in a run, and stole a base in his Cyclones debut on Tuesday night. However, Jersey Shore scratched across four unearned runs in the sixth, as the BlueClaws bested Brooklyn, 6-3, from ShoreTown Ballpark.
In his debut, Williams went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, an RBI, three walks, a run scored, and a stolen base. 1B Jacob Reimer went 0-for-3 with a walk in his team debut. RHP Bailey Reid struck out three of the four batters he faced, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in his maiden voyage with the club.
Trailing 2-0 entering the fifth, DH Junior Tilien walked to start the frame and moved to second on LF Rhylan Thomas’ single to right.
With two on and nobody out, Williams then slashed a ball down the third-base line. Tilien scored and Thomas scooted to third on the 19-year-old’s RBI double, drawing Brooklyn (20-11, 48-48) within one, 2-1.

Later in the frame, Alex Ramírez pulled Brooklyn in front on a two-run single. We're all knotted up, 3-3, in the 6th.#AmazinStartsHere #LGM pic.twitter.com/rnXnsCDL0a
Two pitches later, CF Alex Ramírez smacked a grounder past the drawn-in infield. Both runners scampered home on the single to give the Cyclones a 3-2 lead.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, Jersey Shore (16-15, 51-45) took the lead for good.
A fielding and throwing error at second base, plus a fielder’s choice, placed men at the corners with one out in the inning. After a strikeout pulled Brooklyn within an out of escaping damage, RF Leandro Pineda singled to right to tie the game at three.
C Andrick Nava and 2B Wilfredo Flores responded with consecutive run-producing knocks to right to give Jersey Shore the lead back, 5-3. A throwing error at third — the third of the frame — allowed a fourth unearned run to cross, giving the BlueClaws a 6-3 cushion.
Brooklyn was only able to muster two baserunners over their final three trips to the plate. LHP Andrew Walling struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth to record his first South Atlantic League save.
Jersey Shore powered their way to a lead just three batters into the bottom of the first. 3B Nick Ward and LF Marcus Lee Sang poked back-to-back singles before RF Gabriel Rincones Jr. slapped a double down the left-field line. Two men scored on the two-base hit to give the ‘Claws an early 2-0 lead.
Neither starter received a decision on Tuesday night. RHP Robert Colina tied a season-best with seven strikeouts over a season-high five innings of two-run ball for Brooklyn. Jersey Shore’s LHP Gabriel Cotto walked a season-high five and permitted three runs in five frames.
RHP Konnor Ash (2-0) registered five of his six outs via strikeouts, earning his second win with the ‘Claws. Despite not allowing an earned run, ‘Clones RHP Dylan Hall (0-2) was charged with his second defeat in two-thirds of an inning.
Brooklyn will look to return to the win column in game two of the series on Wednesday afternoon. RHP Jordany Ventura (1-0, 3.65 ERA) — the Mets’ No. 24 prospect per Baseball America — is projected to take the hill for the Cyclones. RHP Gunner Mayer (1-5, 5.94 ERA) is slated to make the start for the BlueClaws. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
