CONEY ISLAND, NY (August 3, 2021) – The Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, were shut out by Hudson Valley’s Randy Vasquez as the Renegades won 5-0 Tuesday night to open the six-game set at Maimonides Park.
Win: Vasquez (2-0) Loss: Vilera (2-6)
- Renegades right hander Randy Vasquez struck out 10 Brooklyn batters over six scoreless, one-hit innings, yielding two walks. The 22-year-old struck out the final four batters that he faced in the victory. He outdueled Brooklyn’s Jaison Vilera who allowed two runs (one earned) over 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts.
- Hudson Valley relievers Nelson Alvarez and Nick Ernst combined for three scoreless, hitless innings of relief.
- Leading 2-0 into the seventh, the Yankees affiliate added a pair of runs, scoring on Austin Wells’ RBI double to left field and Chad Bell’s sacrifice fly.

- Brooklyn native Jaylen Palmer made his High-A debut. Palmer, a Canarsie native, attended Holy Cross High School in Flushing. He is ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the Mets system, according to MLB Pipeline.
- Jeremy Vasquez extended his on-base streak to 22 games with a walk in the seventh inning.
- Hudson Valley has won 13 of 18 (not updated) games in the head-to-head series this season. The two teams will play 36 games this season.
- After Brooklyn won six games in a row against Wilmington from July 20-25, the Cyclones have dropped five of their past seven games.
