Game Summary: The Albuquerque Isotopes used a six-run seventh inning to come back and defeat the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 9-6, Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Isotopes built a 3-0 lead in the game before the Dodgers (25-21/75-44) came back to take a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning. The Isotopes (24-22/51-70) then scored six runs in the seventh inning, including a two-run double by Coco Montes and a three-run home run by Hunter Goodman — his second homer of the game. After trailing, 3-0, the Dodgers scored three runs in the fifth inning, loading the bases with three straight hits and scoring a run on a wild pitch. Another run scored on a groundout by Drew Avans and a RBI single by Miguel Vargas then tied the score, 3-3. In the sixth inning, Bryson Brigman connected on a two-run single and the Dodgers extended to a 6-3 advantage on a sacrifice fly by Avans as the Dodgers opened a 12-game homestand and six-game series against the Isotopes.
Of Note:
-The Dodgers have now lost back-to-back games as well as seven of the last nine games, 10 of the last 13 games and 11 of the last 15 games as they fell to 75-44 overall and to 25-21 during the second half of the PCL season…OKC has now lost four straight series openers after winning 12 of the previous 14…Albuquerque has now won five of the last six meetings between the teams.
-The six runs scored by the Isotopes in the seventh inning marked the 13th time this season the Dodgers allowed six or more runs in an inning. It was the first time since Aug. 8 in Tacoma when the Rainiers scored seven runs in the third inning of OKC’s 12-9 road loss.
-Miguel Vargas recorded a third straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a RBI and a stolen base. He has now hit safely in six of the last seven games, batting .464 (13-for-28).
-David Freitas’ career-best 22-game hitting streak came to an end after he was held 0-for-4. The streak was the longest hitting streak by an OKC player this season, the third-longest in the league this season and third-longest in OKC’s Bricktown era (since 1998)…During Freitas’ streak, which had started June 9 due to his time off and on the active roster, he went 27-for-89 (.303) with 19 RBI, nine extra-base hits and 13 runs scored.
-Jorbit Vivas went 1-for-5 in his Triple-A debut, hitting a single in his first at-bat. The infielder joined OKC from Double-A Tulsa Tuesday. He led Tulsa with 113 hits and 82 runs scored in a team-leading 109 games with the Drillers this season.
-The Dodgers outhit the Isotopes, 11-10, and Yonny Hernández had the team’s lone extra-base hit — a double in the sixth inning as he went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Bryson Brigman went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Justin Yurchak recorded two hits and Drew Avans finished with two RBI and a walk.
-The Isotopes recorded seven stolen bases in the game, marking the second time this season the Dodgers have allowed seven or more steals in a game. Wynton Bernard recorded four stolen bases for Albuquerque — tied for the second-most in a game by a PCL player this season.
-Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Shelby Miller continued his Major League Rehab Assignment and pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one run and two hits with one walk and one strikeout. He faced four batters in his third appearance…Relief pitcher Tyler Cyr made the third appearance of his current Major League Rehab Assignment and exited the game after 18 pitches. In the loss, he was charged with four runs and two hits over one-third of an inning with two walks and one strikeout, facing five batters.
-The Dodgers took the field as Cielo Azul de Oklahoma City during ¡Celebración Cielo Azul! Cielo Azul translates to “Blue Sky” and since 2018, the Dodgers have participated in MiLB’s Copa de la Diversión, or Fun Cup, which aims to celebrate each participating community’s Hispanic and Latino fans, create a culturally relevant gameday experience and develop special alternative team identities.
