SPRINGDALE, Arkansas (August 28, 2024) – The Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6-5 on Wednesday evening from Arvest Ballpark.

Northwest Arkansas (25-27, 60-61) opened the scoring against Frisco (30-23, 74-48) starter Winston Santos. After picking up the first two outs, the righty issued back-to-back walks before a two-run triple by Carter Jensen gave the Naturals their first lead of the series.

Abimelec Ortiz led off the top of the second inning with a 421-foot blast to right against William Fleming, cutting the Northwest Arkansas lead to 2-1.

In the top of the fourth inning, Frisco tied the game on an RBI groundout from Aaron Zavala that plated Ortiz. Luis Mieses launched his fourth homer of the season, a two-run shot that pushed the Riders ahead at 4-2.

Cooper Johnson torched an RBI double to left in the top of the fifth inning, scoring Cody Freeman from first to make it a 5-2 game.

In the home half of the fifth, Tyler Tolbert brought the Naturals back within a run on a two-run double. A balk and a wild pitch allowed Tolbert to cross the plate, evening the game at 5-5.

Santos finished after 5.0 innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six.

Alejandro Osuna gave the Riders the lead with an eighth inning RBI single, driving in Tucker Mitchell to give Frisco a 6-5 advantage.

Dane Acker (5-4) worked 2.0 scoreless, on-hit frames before handing the ball to Jackson Kelly. The righty tossed 2.0 innings, allowing just one baserunner while striking out on his way to a six out save.

The Riders collected 10 hits as Osuna and Johnson each poured in two hits.

The RoughRiders continue a six-game set on the road against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Kansas City Royals affiliate) at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th. The Riders will turn to LHP Mitch Bratt (2-1, 4.34) against RHP Luinder Avila (6-4, 3.96) for the Naturals.
