DALLAS, TX (December 11, 2001) – On the final day of Major League Baseball’s Winter Meetings, the Mets lost nine players as part of the Rule V Draft, including six former Cyclones. RHP Mike Vasil, LHP Nathan Lavender, RHP Nolan Clenney, RHP Jawilme Ramirez, INF Junior Tilien and C Drake Osborn – all former Cyclones – were claimed in either the Major League or Minor League portions of the Rule V Draft.

The Tampa Rays and Philadelphia Phillies selected LHP Nathan Lavender and RHP Mike Vasil respectively during the Major League phase. This means that both players must remain on the 26-man roster for each club for the duration of the Major League season or be offered back to the Mets. Lavender is expected to miss the 2025 season following elbow surgery, so he would need to remain on the Rays roster for the entire 2026 season. Vasil was later traded to the Tampa Rays after being selected by the Phillies.

Junior Tilien (Detroit Tigers), Drake Osborn (Arizona Diamondbacks) Nolan Clenney (Chicago Cubs) and Jawilme Ramirez (St. Louis Cardinals) were selected in the Minor League phase of the draft.
