Red Wings Drop Game One to St. Paul

The Rochester Red Wings hosted the St. Paul Saints Tuesday night at Innovative Field, losing series opener to the Saints, 14-1. RHP Joan Adon started on the mound for the Wings and took the loss. The Automatic Ball-Strikes system was implemented for the first time Tuesday night.
St. Paul opened up the scoring with a trio of runs in the fourth inning, runs coming off a solo homer and an RBI double, giving the Saints a quick 3-0 lead. St. Paul’s offense then got hot in the fifth and sixth inning, combining for eight runs including a grand slam, giving the Saints an 11-0 lead. St. Paul finished up their scoring by adding two more homers late in the game, increasing their lead to 14-0.
The Wings batters picked up four hits collectively on the night. DH Wilson Garcia, LF Travis Blankenhorn and CF Derek Hill combined for three-extra base hits. Hill broke through on the scoreboard for Rochester with a 416 foot homer in the eight. However, it was too late as the Wings fell to the Saints 14-1.
RHP Joan Adon (1-2, 4.68) started his fourth game on the mound for the Wings Tuesday night, working 4.1 innings of work surrendering four runs on seven hits while striking out four. Wings relievers LHP Jose Ferrer, RHP Anthony Castro, LHP Alberto Baldonado, RHP Odalvi Javier and RHP Gerson Moreno combined to cover the final 4.2 frames.
The Diamond Pro Player of the Game is CF Derek Hill who went 1-for-4 with a home run.
The Wings are back in action at Innovative Field Wednesday night as RHP Jake Irvin (1-2, 6.35) is set to make his fourth start of the year. St. Paul sends RHP Jose De Leon (0-0, 3.14) to the rubber. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm.
