BOWIE, Md. -- Marcos Molina dominated in his first relief outing of the season to lead the Bowie Baysox to a 3-0 rain-shortened win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in front of 4,215 on a rainy Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium.
Making his second rehab appearance in as many days, Richard Bleier started on the mound after a 28-minute rain delay. The Oriole LHP allowed a soft single, but struck out a batter and got a pair of grounders to shortstop Mason McCoy to complete his 12-pitch (10-strike) outing.
Molina entered in the second inning and earned his second straight win over the Squirrels by holding Richmond (11-21) to one hit over seven scoreless innings. The righty walked a pair and struck out three batters, retiring all but four Richmond hitters until the game was called after the top of the eighth inning.
Offensively, the Baysox (11-24) again jumped out to a first-inning lead. Ryan McKenna drilled an opposite-field home run to right-center field for his second long ball of the year. The long ball scored McCoy, who reached on a throwing error by shortstop Brandon Van Horn.
Bowie tacked on a third run in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 3-0. Preston Palmeiro lifted a sacrifice fly to deep left-center field to easily score Martin Cervenka, who walked and advanced to third base on a Zach Jarrett double. The RBI is the first baseman's fifth in the first two games of the series against Richmond and 10th overall in 2019.
The weekend series ends Sunday at 1:35 p.m., when RHP Hunter Harvey (1-2, 4.78 ERA) looks to build upon his six-inning quality start last week at Altoona. Sunday is also Mother's Day at the stadium, presented by Terminix. The first 500 moms (ages 21+) will receive a stemless wine glass upon entry, courtesy of the City of Bowie.
