PEARL, MS – After four straight games scheduled for seven innings to begin the series, the Biloxi Shuckers (18-20) earned a 5-2 win against the Mississippi Braves (15-23) at Trustmark Park in the team’s first nine-inning game since Sunday at Shuckers Ballpark. With the win, the Shuckers can split the series with a win on Sunday. Their five runs and 10 hits also set a series-best against the M-Braves.
The Shuckers struck first with two outs in the second when Zavier Warren smashed a double to left, scoring Darrien Miller from first and giving Biloxi a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Justin Dirden, lined a single to right and scored Warren, extending the lead to 2-0. In the fourth, Biloxi extended the lead to 4-0 with two bases-loaded walks from Ethan Murray and Eric Brown Jr.
On the mound, Shuckers’ starter Jacob Misiorowski worked around six baserunners over the first three innings and struck out three. In the fourth, the M-Braves tallied their first run of the night on a throwing error that allowed Brandon Parker to score from third, making it 4-1. The at-bat ended Misiorowski’s night, but he lowered his ERA to 2.32 after not allowing an earned run in 3.2 innings. Misiorowski has allowed one earned run or less in six of his eight starts this season and has allowed two runs or less in seven straight.
Out of the bullpen, Kaleb Bowman was dominant for Biloxi, allowing one baserunner over 3.1 innings. His appearance set a season-high in innings and marked the most in an appearance since he joined the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
In the ninth, the Shuckers extended the lead to 5-1 with an RBI single from Carlos Rodriguez. In the bottom half of the inning, Yolbert Sanchez made it 5-2 with an RBI single, but a double play off a fly ball to right that caught Tyler Tolve attempting to advance to third ended the game. Bowman (2-0) earned the win while M-Braves’ starter Luis De Avila (0-6) took the loss.
The Shuckers will finish the series on Sunday against the M-Braves at Trustmark Park with a 2:05 p.m. first pitch. TJ Shook (2-4, 3.48) makes his second consecutive Sunday start and is set to go against Drew Parrish (3-3, 3.47) for the M-Braves.
