PEARL, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers (18-21) fell to the Mississippi Braves (16-23), 7-3, at Trustmark Park on Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The two teams combined for 10 runs and 19 hits, the most in any game between the two teams in the season series.
In the first, the Shuckers threatened after Eric Brown Jr. and Mike Boeve both reached to start the game, but M-Braves’ starter Drew Parrish retired the next three batters in order, holding Biloxi scoreless. In the bottom of the inning, the M-Braves took a 3-0 lead after three batters when Drake Baldwin launched a home run to right, his third of the season. Later in the inning. Cal Conley singled home a run and a throwing error allowed Geraldo Quintero to score from third, making it 5-0. Shuckers’ starter TJ Shook exited after two-thirds of an inning, but Nick Merkel held the M-Braves scoreless over the next 2.1 innings.
The Shuckers started the comeback attempt in the fourth when Noah Campbell singled to left, scoring Ernesto Martinez Jr. from third and cutting the deficit to 5-1. Next inning, the Shuckers struck for two more on bases-loaded walks from Ethan Murray and Campbell, making it 5-3.
After Merkel exited, Sam Gardner entered next for the Shuckers and tossed three perfect innings with six strikeouts.
