San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were able to compete on Saturday night without incident, an evening after their scheduled contest was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols. After a flurry of roster moves the 66ers were able to field a club on Saturday but the ballgame went in the loss column as Rancho Cucamonga downed Inland Empire 7-1 at San Manuel Stadium
The Quakes (3-1) scored off Inland Empire starter Adam Seminaris (0-1) on a two-run double by Marco Hernandez for a 2-0 lead. Quakes’ shortstop Alex De Jesus made it a 3-0 lead in the fourth with a solo homer to center, the opening salvo in a monstrous night at the plate. The Quakes added two more runs in the frame on a three-base outfield error for the Sixers. Trailing 5-0 in the seventh, the 66ers (1-3) scored an unearned run to avoid being shutout for the first time in 2021. De Jesus, who had added a fifth inning single, struck again in the eighth to put the game out of reach when he connected on a two-run homer and a 7-1 lead. He added a ninth inning single for a 4-for-5 night with two homers and three RBI. Jose Hernandez (1-0) was credited with the win out of the pen after starter Kendall Williams tossed four scoreless to open the game in his Dodgers’ organizational debut. Catcher Ty Green had a single and a double in his first game as a member of the 66ers.
The series concludes at 2:05 pm. The contest can be seen and heard live on 66ers.com.
