Sixers Win Wild Matinee Over Rawhide 11-10

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino overcame an early 6-0 deficit versus the Visalia on Tuesday afternoon at San Manuel Stadium and downed the Rawhide 11-10. The loss was Visalia’s ninth in a row and improved the Sixers season mark against the Diamondbacks’ Low-A West affiliate

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino overcame an early 6-0 deficit versus the Visalia on Tuesday afternoon at San Manuel Stadium and downed the Rawhide 11-10. The loss was Visalia’s ninth in a row and improved the Sixers season mark against the Diamondbacks’ Low-A West affiliate to 4-3.

The Rawhide took a 2-0 lead against Sixers’ starter John Swanda in the first when Elian Miranda knocked home two on a single; it was the start of a big day for Miranda. In the third, the Visalia DH came up with bases loaded and delivered a grand slam, his fifth dinger of the year, for a 6-0 lead. The Sixers got three back in the fourth sparked by D’Shawn Knowles’ first of two doubles on the day. He also stole third, his 15th steal in 15 attempts this year. The Rawhide chased Sixer’s starter John Swanda with two runs in the top of the fifth but the Sixers unloaded on Visalia (13-42) reliever Marcos Tineo (0-3) in the bottom of the inning. Gustavo Campero singled and scored on Knowles one-out double. Elijah Green the singled and Knowles came home on Braxton Martinez double making it 8-5. After Spencer Brown RBI single made it 10-6 Edwin Yon walked to load the bags. Jose Reyes then sizzled a grand slam over the right-field wall on an 0-2 pitch giving IE a 10-8 advantage. The homer was Reyes’ fourth of the season. The Rawhide bounced in the sixth wwhen Danny Oriente tripled off Julio Goff (4-2) and came home on a sac fly from AJ Vukovich. Neyfy Castillo followed with a triple and scored on Miranda’s game-tying sac fly to give him seven RBI on his first day back from an IL stint with a concussion. Inland Empire (26-28) took the lead for good in the seventh when Edwin Yon tripled and then scored on Tineo’s two-out wild pitch putting the score at 11-10. The Rawhide did not go down without a fight in the ninth as Ramses Malave tagged a one out triple to right against Emilker Guzman but the righty got a strikeout and a flyout to end the game and earn his fifth save in five chances. Reyes finished with five RBI while Elijah Green finished 2-for-2 with three walks.
