San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino used a six-run third inning and a pair of two-run homers by Edwin Yon to drop the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 12-5 at San Manuel Stadium on Saturday night. The Sixers (55-55) have won two straight in the series after the Quakes grabbed the first three games of the six-game set.

Inland Empire scored an unearned run in the first without a hit but the Quakes (62-51) tied the game in the second on a RBI double by Wladimir Chalo. In the second, Inland Empire recaptured the lead 3-2 when Edwin Yon pulverized a homer out to left field for a two-run shot, his first of the game and 13th on the year. The Quakes bounced back in the third scoring three runs against Sixers’ starter Braden Olthoff in his IE debut; Jose Ramos had the highlight of the frame with a RBI double. Trailing 4-3 into the bottom of the frame, the Sixers unloaded on Rancho starer Jerming Rosario (0-1) as after two outs were had and one man was on Alexander Ramirz delivered a RBI single, and Jose Reyes followed with a RBI double to take the lead. Myles Emmerson was then hit by a pitch and he and Reyes both scored on Starling Gill’s two-run double. Yon then stepped to the plate against reliever Ryan Sublette and crushed a homer to right field to cap the six-run frame making it 9-4. Yon, who had two triples and a double on Friday, has hit six of his 14 homers against the Quakes. Inlad Empire added two more in the fifth on Julio De La Cruz’s blistering two-run single to right and another in the sixth when Kevin Watson Jr.’s solo homer to right made it 12-4. Nick Mondak (1-0) dazzled out of the pen for Inland Empire in his first appearance with the Sixers; the southpaw from St. John’s University tossed five shutout frames allowing four hits and fanning seven batters to earn the win. Luis Diaz hit an inside-the-park homer in the top of the ninth for the Quakes making it 12-5. Inland Empire pitchers (Olthoff, Mondak and Brandon Dufault) combined to fan 14 with no walks.
