San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino used a three-run fourth inning and received strong work from a trio of righties to down the Lake Elsinore Storm 3-2 to open a three-game set at San Manuel Stadium on Tuesday. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Inland Empire as the Sixers improved to 14-8 against the Storm on the season.
Lake Elsinore (54-61, 19-26) took a lead immediately in the first as River Stevens launched a solo homer to center to open the game and a 1-0 advantage. It was Stevens again in the second with a two-out RBI single scoring Taylor Kohlwey who had tripled in the frame. The RBI gave the Storm a 2-0 lead against Inland Empire (53-62, 23-22) starter Ryan Clark but that was all the righty allowed. Clark (1-2) surrendered five hits and two walks with four Ks in his first Cal League victory.
Inland Empire was stymied by Storm starter Logan Allen (2-4) until the fourth when Kyle Survance Jr. singled to open the inning. Jordan Zimmerman followed with a base hit. A fielder's choice put runners at the corners and Jack Kruger came through with a two-run triple to right center to tie the game 2-2. Keith Grieshaber, who had doubled in his first at-bat then delivered a RBI single for a 3-2 lead. The bullpens were magnificent as southpaw Thomas Dorminy held the Sixers scoreless for three frames allowing just triple to Jake Yacinich and fanning four for the Storm. Blake Smith gave the 66ers three shutout innings giving up two hits and striking out two. Samil De Los Santos (SV, 6) walked one in the ninth but secured the 3-2 win.
