Baysox hold Yard Goats to four hits

For the second straight night, the Bowie Baysox (40-28) shutout the Hartford Yard Goats (21-48) winning 5-0 Friday night. Bowie’s pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts and only walked two batters.

Michael Baumann had another strong start on the mound going six innings and allowing two hits and one walk. Baumann struck out seven batters. He has recorded at least seven strikeouts in each of his last two starts. He earned his third win of the season and is now 3-2 with the Baysox in 2021.

The Baysox hit back-to-back solo homers in the fourth. Patrick Dorrian and Toby Welk each went deep to left center to put Bowie on the board. The Baysox added three runs in the seventh highlighted by a two-RBI double by Adley Rutschman. Rustchman would later score on a sacrifice fly by Welk.

Rutschman, Chris Hudgins, and Greg Cullen each recorded two hits. Rutschman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. He has recorded a hit in four of his last five games. Hudgins went 2-for-4 while Cullen went 2-for-2 and drew two walks. Dorrian picked up an RBI on his solo homer and went 1-for-3. Six of Bowie’s nine batters recorded at least one hit.

Ryan Conroy earned his first hold after pitching in the seventh inning in his Double-A debut. He gave up two hits and struck out one batter. Steven Klimek finished the game for the Baysox and pitched the final two innings. He did not allow any hits or runs and struck out five.

With the win, Bowie has won three games in a row. The Baysox have also won seven of their last nine games. Bowie will look to extend their winning streak to four Saturday night at 6:35 in game five of the six-game series with Hartford.

Right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (4-1, 2.04 ERA) gets the start for the Baysox against southpaw Nick Bush (0-2, 8.36 ERA) for the Goats.
