BOWIE, Md. - Martin Cervenka's 10th-inning sacrifice fly capped off a thrilling 3-2 Bowie Baysox comeback victory over the Harrisburg Senators in front of 5,972 at Prince George's Stadium Saturday night.
The extra-inning momentum started in the top of the 10th. Erick Salcedo's jump throw deep in the shortstop hole was punctuated by a full split from Aderlin Rodriguez to retire Carter Kieboom. From there, Branden Kline caught Jake Lowery looking and struck out Taylor Gushue swinging with two men on to keep the Senators (46-42) off the board
With D'Arby Myers pinch-running for Rodriguez to start the bottom half of the inning, Anderson Feliz reached on an infield bunt single to place Myers in scoring position. One batter later, Cervenka lifted the game-winning hit to right field, deep enough to score Myers and give Bowie its league-leading seventh extra-inning win of 2018.
Harrisburg starter Kyle McGowin allowed one hit through the first six innings, but Bowie (38-49) stormed back with two runs in the seventh to even the score at 2-2. Ademar Rifaela placed a bunt to the first base side of the mound and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With a 1-1 count, Corban Joseph lined his team-leading 22nd double to the right-center field gap to give the hosts their first run. Two pitches later, Ryan Mountcastle extended his current team-leading hit streak to 11 games with a soft line-drive single to left-center, easily plating Joseph to tie the game.
The Baysox got 10 solid innings on the mound from its pitching staff. LHP Reid Love made his first start of the season after serving as a relief pitcher for the first three months, striking out six of the first seven Senator batters while allowing one run on three hits. RHP Jay Flaa held Harrisburg to one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts in three innings, while LHP Luis Gonzalez struck out a trio of Senators over 1.2 innings before Kline entered in the ninth inning.
Before the Eastern League goes on its All-Star Break, the Baysox and Senators square off in the rubber match at 1:35 p.m. ET. LHP Luis Ysla concludes a string of four straight left-handed starting pitchers against Harrisburg RHP Tyler Mapes.
