Long Ball Lifts Binghamton Over Portland

Portland, Maine – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies hit three home runs in their 5-2 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs fall to 54-36 while the Rumble Ponies improve to 41-49.
RHP Dustin Beggs was awarded the victory for the Rumble Ponies tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs on four hits. RHP Frank German was given the loss pitching 4.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four. He gave up two home runs.
Mark Vientos started the scoring for the Rumble Ponies in the top of the first inning. With Carlos Cortes at second base, Vientos blasted his 21st home run of the season to right field and Binghamton led, 2-0.
Hayden Senger led-off the top of the fourth inning with a double to the left field corner. Matt Winaker then hit a two-run home run to right field, extending Binghamton’s lead 4-0.
The Sea Dogs scored for the first time in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a leadoff single, Hudson Potts advanced to second when Devlin Granberg was hit by a pitch. He then went to third on a wild pitch thrown by Binghamton’s pitcher Dustin Beggs. Jeisson Rosario then singled him home and Portland was on the board, 4-1.
Ronaldo Hernandez drilled his 12th homer of the year to leadoff the seventh inning and the Sea Dogs continued to trail, 4-2.
The Rumble Ponies scored their final run in the top of the eighth inning. Luis Carpio connected for a one-out home run, extending Binghamton’s lead 5-2.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies will meet again tomorrow, August 19 at 6:00pm. RHP Victor Santos (2-1, 3.00 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while Binghamton will send RHP Justin Lasko (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the bump.
