*BILOXI, MS *– A two-run home run in the fifth and a grand slam in the sixth by the Montgomery Biscuits (78-57, 42-24) held off two late runs by the Biloxi Shuckers (73-61, 39-25) in a 6-2 Shuckers’ loss at MGM Park on Thursday night. The Shuckers now need to win each of their final three games to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

Shuckers’ starter Aaron Ashby, making a rehab start from the Milwaukee Brewers, threw a 10-pitch first inning and faced the minimum, using a double-play to get out of the inning. Christian Mejias, who has made 24 starts on the year, entered in the second. Over the next three innings, Mejias faced one over the minimum, touching 96 MPH and striking out two. For the Biscuits, starter Ian Seymour, making his first start at the Double-A level in 2023, held the Shuckers scoreless through the first four innings on one hit, a first-inning double from Jackson Chourio.

In the top of the fifth, Mason Auer put the Biscuits on the board with a two-run home run to left-center, giving them a 2-0 lead. One inning later, Bob Seymour smashed a line-drive grand slam to right, giving Montgomery a 6-0 lead.

Between Seymour going 4.2 shutout innings and Antonio Jimenez throwing 2.1 scoreless in relief, the Shuckers entered the eighth down six. Zavier Warren, however, led off the inning with a solo home run to right-center on the first pitch, making it 6-1. In the ninth, Jackson Chourio reached on a single and moved to third on his 42nd stolen base of the year and a wild pitch. Jeferson Quero knocked him in with an RBI double to the wall, making it 6-2. Reliever Antonio Menendez then induced a groundout to second, closing out a Biscuits’ win. Jimenez (3-0) earned the win while Mejias (6-12) took the loss for Biloxi.

The Shuckers will send the franchise’s single-season strikeout king, Tobias Myers, to the mound on Friday in a must-win game to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Biscuits will send righty Sean Hunley to the mound, needing one more win to reach the postseason for the eighth consecutive year. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at MGM Park.

A fireworks display will light up the skies over MGM Park immediately following the game. The Shuckers will also host First Responders and Frontline Workers Night with a softball game between Biloxi and Gulfport First Responders prior to the game. Gates will open for the softball game at 3:30 p.m.

The game can be heard on Cruisin’ WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show featuring the Mississippi Army National Guard Pregame Interview. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
