90s Kickback Concert Coming to Whitaker Bank Ballpark
WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends are excited to announce today they will host 90s Kickback Concert at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Friday, September 20th. Performances will include groups such as Next, Doug E. Fresh, Al B. Sure!, Da Brat, the Ying Yang Twins, The Luniz and Da Brat. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, August 1st and start at just $49.
"After the success of both Nelly and Ludacris, we are thrilled to bring even more talented artists to Whitaker Bank Ballpark! This lineup consists of popular singers who span decades of popularity with songs we still hear today. We cannot wait to host another fantastic night of music in Lexington," said Legends President/CEO.
Next was a popular trio during the late 1990s and early 2000s. They are best known for their #1 hit single "Too Close" as well as "Wifey", and "I Still Love You" which all continue to frequently play on Urban Adult Contemporary radio stations both in the US and internationally.
Doug E. Fresh is a rapper, record producer and beatboxer, also known as the "Human Beat Box". The pioneer of 20th-century American beatboxing, Fresh is able to accurately imitate drum machines and various special effects using only his mouth, lips, gums, throat, tongue and a microphone. He produced albums such as Oh, My God!, The World's Greatest Entertainer, Doin' What I Gotta Do and Play.
Al B. Sure! was one of the most popular singers, songwriters and record producers in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His debut album in 1988 "In Effect Mode" sold more than three million copies, topping the Billboard R&B chart for seven straight weeks and included the single "Nite and Day." He has received numerous Grammy and American Music Award nominations and won an AMA for Best New R&B Artist.
Da Brat released her debut album Funkdafied in 1994 and sold one million copies, making her the first female solo rap act to receive a platinum certification, and the second overall female rap act (solo or group) after Salt-N-Pepa. Da Brat has received two Grammy Award nominations. Some of her most successful songs/features include, "I Think They Like Me", "Funkdafied" and "Loverboy.
The Ying Yang Twins debuted in 2000 and rose to mainstream popularity in 2003 collaborating with Britney Spears on her album In the Zone and with Lil Jon on "Get Low". In 2004 and 2005, Ying Yang Twins became more popular with party singles "Salt Shaker", "Wait (The Whisper Song)", "Shake" and "Badd". They have received notoriety for their song "Halftime (featuring Homebwoi)" which is played at New Orleans Saints home games after most touchdowns. In 2008, the hip hop duo released The Official Work mixtape. In 2009, they followed with their Ying Yang Forever mixtape. As recently as 2013, the Ying Ying Twins released Ass in session and Twurk or Die mixtape.
The Luniz was formed by Yukmouth and Numskull. The group is best known for the internationally successful hit in 1995 titled "I Got 5 on It". The song rose in popularity again recently thanks to Jordan Peele utilizing it in his blockbuster 'Us.'
Shai's biggest hit was "If I Ever Fall in Love", which reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. "If I Ever Fall in Love" was released as the first single from the debut album of the same title, and peaked at #2 in the U.S. The next two releases from the double-platinum album, "Comforter" and "Baby I'm Yours," each peaked #10.
