ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Round Rock Express (27-16) took the series opener over the Albuquerque Isotopes (18-25) by a final score of 8-3 on Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. The Express are 6-1 in their last seven games.

Round Rock reliever RHP Demarcus Evans (1-1, 3.38) earned the win after 1.2 shutout frames. He did not allow a hit and struck out one. Albuquerque starter LHP Dillon Overton (2-6, 7.82) collected the loss after allowing six runs, five of which were earned. He also allowed seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk over 4.2 innings.

Along the Train Tracks:

  • Albuquerque took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A double for 2B Tim Lopes started things off and an RBI single from 1B Elehuris Montero scored the first run of the evening.
  • Round Rock responded in the second inning. DH Nick Solak reached on an error before C Meibrys Viloria singled. 2B Nick Tanielu then hit his fourth home run of the season to give the Express a 3-1 lead.
  • The Isotopes trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning. In the fifth, the E-Train answered when CF Leody Taveras hit a sacrifice fly to score SS Ryan Dorow.
  • CF Bubba Thompson and 3B Josh Smith manufactured a run with their speed in the fifth inning. The two pulled off a double steal and a throwing error on the play allowed Thompson to score from third base, growing the E-Train lead to 5-2. Solak then extended the lead to 6-2 with an RBI single.
  • Thompson put the game out of reach for Albuquerque in the sixth. His triple plated Dorow and Tanielu to make the score 8-2. A run scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning for Albuquerque but that was all the offense for the night as the Express brought home an 8-3 victory.

E-Train Excerpts:

  • Round Rock CF Bubba Thompson finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. He also stole two bases. It was the fifth time this season that Thompson has stolen two or more bases in a game.
  • Express RHP Demarcus Evans, RHP Spencer Patton and RHP Nick Snyder did not allow a run out of the bullpen. RHP Hever Bueno went 1.2 innings and allowed one run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch.
  • Round Rock scored three runs in the second inning on Tuesday. The Express have scored 49 runs in the second inning this year, the most of any frame this season.
